Best for Pet Wellness Plan

Has anyone tried this best for pet wellness plan? considering going on it for my dog as he needs monthly consultations and prescriptions but not sure if worth the $38 a month for at least 12 months contract.

What are people's experiences with them?

OP, they are not pet insurance.

    From their FAQ:

    Is BFP like insurance?

No, pet insurance provides cover for accidents and illness in sick or injured pets, while BEST FOR PET is an annual program that provides affordable routine care for your pet not typically covered by Pet Insurance. Optimal routine care and preventative screening for health issues like disease are essential to maintaining pet health and well-being, which can lead to a longer, happier life.

If a consultation costs more than $38 seems like a no brainer?

I used best for pet when I got my puppy. 12 month contract and it has paid for itself because it covers consults every couple months, dental checkups, vaccinations and an annual blood test etc. I paid $600 I think for 12 month contract but I will cancel it after my pup turns 1 as I don’t think I will use it anywhere as much after he turns 1. You only really get the benefit if you attend the vet a lot and it sounds like you will need to. A vet consult is like $180 per visit so if this plan is charging you $38 a month you will be better off (and worst case if you need to attend the vet on a once off for something best for pet should cover it)

EDIT - one thing to watch out for, make sure the medication they are prescribing you is not being inflated. I’ve heard stories where the vets using best for pet charge extra $$ on items as they know you will keep coming back to them. Just check the medication online and confirm the price or call another vet. One guy I knew was charged $98 for a medication when another vet said it would be $36… so just do your checks to be safe

    • Thanks for the insight!

    • They were massively inflating my dogs thyroid medication

I ended up cancelling as yo go in for free consult and try and push dental work with high quotes, do tests that cost without asking and charge heaps for flea, de worming etc

    • Did you cancel within the 12 months or after?
