  • Good find. definitely stackable?

So buy and use the $40 cashback deal Sim first and then this Bathurst deal SIM to recharge after that free month?

    • +1

It's a new SIM not a recharge - some have had success getting it treated as a recharge with the call centre, however YMMV. For safety, get a $2.90 or $1.00 Kogan SIM to port out (and back in) to Boost.

      • +3

The fact you need to do that is stupid. Boost has always treated current users like trash. Swear boost is only used as a tool by Telstra to boost (pun intended) their subscriber base.

        • +3

Every single MNVO or Telco work this way.
They all offer incentives to initially move to them at a discounted rate, nothing unusual.

          • +1

@SimAus007: Thus the beauty of not paying upfront in a lump sum. Pay month to month. Leave when you want for the better deal.

            • +3

@checkingthisout: It's what I do most of the time, although the 365-day SIM's can be very very good value (for the first 365 days).
I haven't paid more than around $10/month in a very long time. I obviously have too much time on my hands lol

      • I've only got 2 days left on my current boost plan and have ordered the deal above. To sustain me until the new SIM arrives I'm thinking I can just grab your linked Logan 2.90 Sim however choose the esim option to avoid delivery days.. should be ok yeah? Thanks!

        • didn't have to worry as the SIM card arrived at my door in less than 24 hours ha

      • Had a chat to boost and they said apparently if I port out, they won't let me port the same number back in for a month (according to their live chat). I've never heard of that being an issue before..?

  • Is it good to get this or use the pricematch at Officeworks with LuckyMobile?

Also do you think they would make this a recharge on existing number through Customer Contact Centre

    • +1

Can’t price match/beat Officeworks using a discount code.

    • +1

No, you need to port out and back it. It's a "new customer offer" :)

  • +12

Sim needs to be activated by 28 Nov 2022

    • +1

Just the info I was looking for - thank you!

    • +1

Thanks. Such a short validity. It's useless for me.

  • +2

I was getting horrible voice calls when I was using this for work in greater West Sydney, people saying my voice was garbled and cutting in and out. Weird because I was on 5g and volte on an s21 ultra.

    • +63

Maybe that's just how your voice normally sounds?

      • +5

Damn this place is brutal sometimes

        • +6

          sometimes ?

    • Hi there! If the issue persists, please let us know via [email protected] so we can check the network coverage within your area.

  • +13

How about the cheaper $200 sim. Come on cashrewards ya dogs.

  • Is there any long expiry plans that support 5G and eSim?

    • Check Amaysim. Support and esim and has long expiry plans…

      • +1

        Still 4g unfortunately

        • All of these prepaid that do have 5g are only guaranteed until November as part of a "trial." You'd be taking a gamble that it gets extended anyway

      • +1

They also have no Wi-Fi calling which is why I'm about to leave amaysim.

    • Telstra.

    • +1

Vodafone oops saw esim. no sim sorry on voda

  • Anyone know what’s the min time you can port out for with say a $2 sim from any other carrier then bring the same number back in to Boost for this to work?

    • I've done it pretty well straight away with Kogan mobile.

    • +4

Boost customer care chat will usually (but not always) recharge for you. They'll activate the new SIM with the new number, then transfer your old number across to the new SIM. To do this you usually need to turn off WiFi to initiate the chat. When your signal drops (because they've deactivated the old SIM), pop the new SIM in, and your chat will resume (or turn on WiFi), and complete the chat and they'll complete the number swap.

That said, as long as it takes to churn. Churn out. Activate the new SIM on the other network, churn back in immediately.

      • Awesome thanks.

Do you initiate the chat from the App?

        • +1

Yeah, either inside the Boost Mobile app, or from their website https://boost.com.au/pages/web-message-us

While connected to the mobile network only - if you're on WiFi or not on their network, the chat never seems to connect.

          • +2

@BJReplay: If you have PiHole, it tends to block the Boost Chat as I find oout.

            • +1

@ChickenDinner123: Oh, thanks @ChickenDinner123, I don't have PiHole, but I do have adblock running on OpenWrt and fairly aggressive 3rd party cookie settings in edge dev - I just assumed it was Boost.

Just confirmed via my VPN to bypass adblock and let all those ads in (Surfshark with 90% cash back via cashrewards, thanks to OzB) and chrome with no add ins and lax settings that chat works just fine!

          • +1

            @BJReplay: Cheers, Thanks.

I've been with Boost for years but don't like how they shaft existing customers.

            • +1

@JimB: Same, @JimB, though their recharge for $200 is 130GB and their new sign up for $200 is 140GB so the shaft ratio is lower there.

I used to do the 260GB SIMs but never got close to using all that data away from home, so now do the 140 or 130GB 12 month plans.

But of course you can buy the $200 welcome pack for $160 when it is on sale which you can't do for the recharge, but that's another story.

But I think it is true of all mobile operators. I find that they are very good at activating and number swapping a new SIM now so I just buy the new SIM when it is on sale either through a third party or from Boost, then get onto chat to swap my number onto it a day or so before my old SIM is due to expire, and worst case scenario if they won't do it, I'll pick up a $2 SIM at the servo or OfficeWorks the next day and port out and back in again.

Finally, I'm betting that the 5G will become permanent for all 12 month SIMs at the end of the trial. If not, I'm not going to miss much other than fast speedtests, but I reckon it will be part of their differentiation.

              • +2

@BJReplay: For my wife's last recharge, I think it was 120GB on the smaller 12 month plan (recharge)…. I think at the time new sign up plans were 140GB, Spoke to Boost chat and they gave us a bonus 20GB to match the new sign up plans.

I didn't know you could start buy a new Sim and port internally.

I can't be bothered porting in and out.. but for $50 + $40 saving.. I'll do it this time.

In terms of 5G.. it's immaterial to me.. hell I don't even have a 5G phone.. lol 4G is plenty fast for my phone.

              • @BJReplay: How long do you port out for before you port back in mate?

                • +2

@Chippy47: @Chippy47 I don't - I just get the support chat to transfer my number to the new SIM now. See comments above.

But when I used to, literally minutes, especially if it was a free SIM with no credit.

As soon as the port out completed, I would port in, unless I happened to have picked up some sort of amazing OzBargain deal for the port-out SIM.

          • +1

            @BJReplay: Thanks Champ.

I ‘recharged’ with a new SIM via the chat.

FYI, I initiated the chat while on wifi, seems to make no difference as long as you can connect to the internet.

I’m confident you could initiate the chat on a PC web browser.

They will just verify who you are with SMS code.

            • @JimB: Yeah, I found out later that adblockers on my router are what block the chat on wifi / PC.

      • Cheers for the detailed reply

  • +4

The thing is. I need ESIM

    • +1

Yeah Telstra supposed leader in IT mobile race in Australia. Not really keen on esim. Telstra using it as another “premium” feature. 🤷‍♂️

    • Hey there! We're working on it! Hopefully within this year.

  • +4

Thanks just in time. Couldn't wait to get off vodafone.

  • What telstra network operator has esim?

    • +1

      Telstra itself…and Woolworths mobile.

      • Thanks. Will look at woolworths mobile

  • -4

Garbage deal. No Esim, removed unlimited Apple Music. Don’t offer any deals for previous customers.

You pay upfront and get 20gb for $20 a month. Or you can use Felix mobile for $15 more and get unlimited data. Or circles life is $20 for 100gb a month.

You pay upfront for this. How is this a good deal?!

You can get $10 for 50GB with circles life on Optus.

Again, garbage deal just so you can use Telstra?

    • +1

Felix is on Vodafone and unlimited does not mean fast.

      Circles.life does a credit check.

      • 20/20mbps is plenty fast enough for mobile use. I assume you’ve never used it. And I tether 4K on Felix for $17.50 for three months.

Lots of brands do credit checks. It’s a post paid plan. Which every post paid plan does.

        • +2

          You do you guy.

          • -3

@nedski: 200gb+ into Felix tethering 4K for less than $20 a month. Boost is not a good value product anymore.

Even Moose mobile has better costs now.

            $1gb is not good value.

            • +2

@checkingthisout: Why are you trying to convince me of this? Some people like it because of various reasons, like how you are in love with Felix. As I said, you do you guy.

              • -2

@nedski: They only love it for Telstra coverage of which Vodafone customers are about to get for free anyway. Other than that it’s garbage.

    • +4

Full Telstra coverage. Move outside any major centre and you'll appreciate it over the others.

      • I’ve been in boost before. Didn’t find it that much better than Optus. The 1% coverage difference is barely negligible.

And Telstra and Vodafone could potentially be using the exact same network anyway.

Meaning you’re a Vodafone mvno or user you’ll have the full Telstra coverage anyway.

Paying upfront is super daft. If it was per month sure.

        • +1

Just did 3500km of driving the other week to remote-ish areas. Big difference between wholesale and full coverage.

          • +1

@anthem29: Yeah I just did 1050km drive 2 weeks ago and had both Optus and Vodafone. In some area Optus was better. Some Vodafone. Family member had boost. And in most areas where Vodafone had coverage. They didn’t have any bars. Mostly in tree heavy areas.

We both have the exact same iPhone. Go figure. 🤔

            • +2

@checkingthisout: NW Western Australia is a different case.

              • +1

@anthem29: Yeah rural Queensland. Telstra doesn’t work at the house. Optus does. Vodafone kinda does. East coast probably gets most of the investment. But with the Vodafone/Telstra Merger. Don’t think it will matter too much anyway soon. And then deals like Kogan absolutely will blow these away.

                • @checkingthisout: This is really weird. Where I am in rural QLD, vodafone has absolutely no signal. Optus is spotty and terrible. Telstra is king, and specifically full telstra/boost, not the wholesaler telstra.

    • +1

definitely don't count on it but… my Boost service doesn't seem to be counting Apple Music against my data allowance (and I joined after they removed that benefit)

  • +2

No international roaming, no deal !

    • which prepaid SIM allows international roaming ?

      • +2

        Amaysim does..

  • +2

Thanks! Was looking at getting out of Felix and this was it!

    • Voda must be bad in your area like mine.

  • +1

call centre using this as recharge is no issue

  • It seems it is only 4G not 5g

    • Yeah the 5G is only a trial. I had it with boost for a while. But the 5G speeds really don’t impact day to day usage as 20gb is totally useless when the speed you get is 500mbps. Tether 2-3 4K YouTube videos and you’ve blown your quota.

      • Oh ok, do you know when the trial expires?

        • +1

          https://boost.com.au/blogs/help-topics/tagged/5g

          Here’s the tos.

5G didn’t improve latency for me while on boost. It didn’t burn my battery life in the iPhone 12 mini though. It did add some negligible speed differences. 4G is still plenty fast. You really only want 5G if you’re on an unlimited plan like the Vodafone $55-65 a month plans or the Optus 500gb plans.

Otherwise. You’ll burn a hole in 20gb real fast.

  • +4

does it come with a free data breach? need a new drivers licence

    • +4

No, they don't store your licence when doing an ID check. I activated a Boost SIM the other day and they explicitly state that they only store your name and DOB but will check your ID document against the issuer but not store it. You'll need to go to Optus for a free data breach.

      • +1

        dammit!

  • Boost vs coles, what is everyones thoughts?

    • Coles (Optus Network) Vs Boost (Telstra Network) is what you are saying.

I would pick Boost since Telstra has more towers around the area. (My opinion)

    • Boost is Telstra. Coles is Optus. Decide for yourself whichever way.

There are cheaper and better mvno providers for Optus such as Moose mobile. Or even Optus sub brand GOMO which is like Belong.

“But Boost has Telstra full coverage” = practically irrelevant in 2022 unless you live in the middle of no where.

Apparently Woolworths is Telstra and has Esim.

22gb for $25 or $4 more and get Esim and 5G apparently on Telstra with Woolworths.

      https://mobile.woolworths.com.au/plans/sim-only-plans?i_cmpid=tel:hp:tile1:save$10SIMO

Makes me think really Boost is such a useless brand now. It’s not even about value anymore.

    • I tried Coles and HATED every second of it. Constant issues (dropouts/slowdowns), even though I had full reception. I ported back to Boost after only 3 months (I hated it so much I forewent the remaining 9 months of my prepaid plan).

  • Can you transfer from belong to boost easily. Or do you need a blank sim please

    • +2

      same network portings are slow.
      different network portings are fastest.

so, for fast portings, choose SIM that is another network.

  • It would be good to get a deal on the $200 sim, anyone know where the best deal is right now?

    • +1

Bought $200 boost sim pack from OW today for $144. OW Price beat luckymobile.

      • +1

Actually ended up doing the same yesterday 👍🏼

  • Priced matched lucky mobile to get for like $213 at officeworks.
If cashrewards works though then this is a better deal

  • I have a $2 boost sim unactivated, anyone had any luck getting discount plus cashback, without ordering a new sim?

  • +1

Been getting really bad receiption in Melbourne east since around the time of 5g upgrade. Completely no receiption in some locations like inside a store.

    • Hey there! Sorry to hear that. You can contact us at [email protected] if this issue persists so we can check network coverage in your area.

  • Boost is terrible for where I am. Surprise as is full Telstra network. Once finish I will jump on to another carrier next time

  • What's the process like for porting from Telstra to boost?
Saw an old post here and there seemed to be a lot of hassle. Is this still the case?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/574200

    • +1

It's simple. I just did this recently and did the process over chat, took about 10mins.

      • Thanks for the reply!
Were U on Telstra post paid or prepaid?

        • +1

          Post

  • Anyone else having issues with the data useage bar in the boost app showing the incorrect amount of useage? I have used 20gb if 240gb and it indicates I have used almost all

    • Hi there! Have you tried updating the app? If the issue persists, please contact our customer service team at [email protected]
