Is Boost Mobile Esim Enabled yet?

Hi All,

For months the rumours were around Boost mobile to adopt eSIM technology but nothing yet. Anyone here can share any firm plans on this? If someone works in Boost mobile technology side can share some light.

    Hang tight

  • lol good one!

Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday…

  • Who knows. If Woolworths Mobile has it, don’t know what holding Boost up. Would have thought they would be the first to get it.

    • -1

because they are telstras budget brand, they have to keep some features for their main brand (telstra) to entice people to buy the higher priced service.

  • So it means it will not happen not this year or next.

    • I was told it is happening very soon.

      • +1

This has been the news since a year. Soon means this year or next year?

We are in 2023 still no sign of eSIM

  • +5

Hi folks, I just called the Boost Care hotline to ask them about eSIM availability.

The Boost staff on the phone was able to share that they have been briefed from Telstra that eSIM capability will have a soft roll out in late Q3 / early Q4 of 2023.

This soft roll out will continue to Q1 of 2024 where an official roll out will take place for all Boost Mobile customers by the end of February 2024.

    Hope that helps!

Great mate. Well done. Now we have a date to look forward to. Sadly Boost could have stepped up their game with this. I’m going overseas in April eSIM would have been so handy.

      • No reason you can't get an eSIM from elsewhere for your trip. I usually check out esimdb.com before travelling and pick up whatever's the cheapest per GB that covers my stay. Additionally (and a little-known fact), you can still receive inbound calls to your Boost number without a roaming pack, provided Telstra has a roaming agreement with a carrier in the country you're travelling to, you just can't make calls outbound or use data on that SIM.

        • Can I get OTP SMS in boost sim for bank transactions etc?

    • Any updates?

  • Even Lebara, Amysim has eSIM now, dont know when Boost is going to get it, they have been saying " we are working on it" for a while now

    • Those muppets are way behind on this technology. Every time I call the customer service I get different answers.

    • Boost uses Telstras back end systems. They are old and take long time to add new features. Once Telstra has launched something it takes Boost another 6-12 months to follow. Like international roaming for prepaid, and now eSim. Im guessing another 12 months at the earliest.

      • Ya I renewed Boost for another 12 months sadly still on physical SIM card and not eSIM

      • Woolworths mobile has esim, which also uses Telstra Network

        • Different to using Telstra's backend, Boost is owned by Telstra

Boost mobile has no eSIM even after a year or more promise from their CEO. I’m predicting they will be the last company to move into eSIM technology.

    Just heard from Boost

“I can certainly help you with eSIM enquiry. Now that I'm here, I'll make sure to help you out. As of now, Boost does not have eSIM yet but, Good news! We're planning to add eSim before this year ends and hoping it can be done within November. Once it's added, it will be available as an option via App.

Future eSIM update will be sent to you or you can also check this from time to time: https://boost.com.au/blogs/help-topics/does-boost-have-esim-capability?_pos=1&_sid=d77915e16&_ss=r”

It sounds like a copy / paste response, but promising none the less

They have been saying this for a year now. I’m giving mid 2024 for any promising news.

    • Thank you for this. I contacted them a few days ago and they didn't give any answer and said couldn't provide a timeline either.
I hope they really roll this out before Christmas. Been waiting for this year for more than a year.

      • Interestingly I just noticed in CashRewards they have a cash back rate of $0 for
“ eSIMs, Recharges, $2 Prepaid SIM, Refurbished Items, Accessories, Bundles”

I had not noticed that before. Prepping for something???

  • I again contacted their support today.
The representative confirmed that Boost will offer eSIM in late 2023. He also said it is confirmed for this year but a date hasn't been indicated yet.
I guess it should be anytime now.

    • Lol

      • Nothing Jan 2024

      • Yea I don't trust them anymore. Just fooling us all the time.

  • Let’s hope for the best. But we been hoping for this miracle for over a year.

  • just received a text message

Exciting news! My Boost Mobile app just got an upgrade – everything you need to manage your account including awesome new features. See more at boost.com.au/app

    • I got excited then got disappointed.
There’s nothing new maybe the font?
No mention on eSIM. It’s like a teenager asking for attention.

  • December has come and still nothing…

    • +2

Haha glad some of us still following this thread. I bet 2024 Dec we will still be hoping. I still remember back in Dec 2021, 2022, now it’s 2023…

  • its coming in 1,2,3 weeks.

  • A bit off topic, but I'm with Boost and just got given a Samsung watch with esim.
Would I be able to share the same phone number if Boost enables this on my watch? My phone doesn't support esim.. so wasn't sure if that'd be an issue

    • How does that work? If it works on iPhone, it should work elsewhere right?

Did it cost extra for additional sim?

      • It's through the settings app on iOS, not the official app at this stage. On Mobile settings there is an option to convert now.

        • That's great news. I don't have an esim phone but have a samsung watch (i haven't setup yet) but do you know if i can have one physical, one esim?

          • @cheapass88: Not with the same number as the physical on Boost unfortunately; only the three major telcos are able to 'share' the same number. I think it is launching in a few months for Woolworths Mobile though.

            • @marcus84: Is there any point of having esim in my smart watch if my phone is always near it? Don't really see the point to be honest

        • Doesn't work, ask me to sign into my Telstra ID then an orange error circle can't go any further.

        • Did this work for you or did it break your service? I have this option - bit apprehensive to try it incase something breaks

  • +1

The wait continues. May be they wanted to mention Dec 2024 instead of Dec 2023

  • I have been travelling a lot during this year end wish boost had eSIM so that I didn’t have ti keep changing the SIM to get OTP. Very annoying. They should just come out clean and say they will not implement eSIM until Xx-YY year

  • Welcome 2024 and yet there’s no eSIM.

    • yeh I didn't bother waiting.

this is what I've done for the time being and is fine for my smart watch so far

      • Wow. I never knew this exists. Is there any way you can find out if this method works for Apple Watch Ultra?

        • No idea for Apple.

    • Every time someone asks them they are pretty much told by the end of the current month.

      • Yea that's been the answer pretty much all the time I contacted them. I don't trust them anymore.

  • Commenting to follow this thread.

  • See you in 2025

  • I reached out and this time the person was not able to provide an update…

    • 2 weeks

      • +1

do you mean 2 years? /s

    • Even if they gave an update, it wouldn't be true. All the updates they gave so far didn't happen.

I think we need to Boost the company's memory about this

Boost doesn't currently have eSIM capability yet as of the moment, the estimated date for us having eSim is still this coming 13th of February. The date above is still subject for change.

    • +1

How do you know it’s 13th Feb? If you aren’t in Boost executive team I wouldn’t trust this information.

      • Maybe good PR for Boost Mobile as a Valentine's Day reveal.

  • +2

As per the live support (not a bot), 13th Feb is the confirmed release date.

This is what live support executive said

"I see. Unfortunately our Boost eSIM will be available on 13 Feb 2024. You can contact us back if you are really wanting to get eSIM only."

    • +1

      Why it is unfortunate?

      • +4

Haha this is funny. Looks like their customer care is not looking forward to eSIM service.

      • +1

Asked the exec whether I could activate esim today. That's the reason for the unfortunate in the sentence

        • +1

Cool. Can’t wait to celebrate on the 14th Feb or get disappointed

  • +4

2 days before we get eSIM option from Boost as per the previous posts

  • +6

eSIM is officially out. Just activated it - you will need to update the app.

    • wow

    • Finally!

    • How have you activated it? Do you have an option to add esim for watches with the same number?

Or are you a new customer?

    • What was wrong with sticking with a sim card?
What's the benefit of switching to an eSim?

I get the convenience of eSim when travelling, i.e: You can purchase a sim before you arrive at the destination, however being at home wouldn't it be easier to have a simcard so that if you switch phones there's no hassle?

      • +3

I guess transferring eSIM from one mobile to another is not that big of a hassle.

For me the benefit of switching to eSIM is that I can have my primary Australian phone number in my mobile at all times and then I can put an overseas physical SIM card in the phone that I need to keep active and which I use when I go to visit my parents overseas.
Instead of swapping physical SIMs every few days to ensure the overseas number stays active, now I can enable or disable it within the phone and have both SIMs in one place. I hope that makes sense.

  • +6

Just activated eSIM on my existing number. Use the updated app and click on transfer or restore eSIM option from the app.

    • Can anyone else confirm this? Any news on if it's available for new numbers?

Nothing on the Boost website yet.

PS. I'm assuming it's working well and no issues…

      • Its working!

    • That's great news! Thanks for the update.

I am on the app but can't figure out how to activate/transfer my service to eSIM.

Is there somewhere that explains this process?

      • +2

Go to Boost app > Main number > scroll all the way down to Transfer or restore eSIM > this device

        • Thanks!

        • Do I need to login. I can't find this option

  • Finally! Got it working with the updated app, now i can add my other sim in and throw away my old phone

  • Just did mine. No issues

  • I’ve set up eSIM which is good. But doesn’t allow for eSIM service sharing on Apple Watch Cellular from what I can see.

    • +1

That’s in our next chapter wish list. It took Boost 3 years to get to this stage to enable eSIM.

  • I did mine. Looking good at this time.

  • Anyone activated esim on a Samsung OneUI6 Android 14? Mine failed on the last step seems Boost app couldn't load esim to the system

    • I just did. I have Samsung S24 Ultra. It went smoothly and didn't have any problems. Maybe try reinstalling the app and doing it again.

      • +1

Guess I was unlucky. The esim was activated successfully and the physical sim was deactivated. But the esim profile wasn’t able to be installed on the phone. I lost mobile access for a day and have to buy another physical sim and port my number to it.
