Unable to Update Mobile with PayPal

So my number was part of the Optus data breach, no problem, got a new number through my new carrier and just going through the process of telling all of my services & friends my new number. With companies I've generally got to call as the change of number has broken all 2FA security.

Now we get to PayPal…
Both numbers to contact them in Oz are broken. When I try to call, either 1800 073 263 or 8223 9500 they come up as invalid carrier access code. Tried on two mobiles and the landline.

And attempting to log in via website or mobile app only ends up in a circular loop to get an SMS for 2FA. Even to contact them via the app requires SMS 2FA… FFS!

I have emailed their escalations account, but I'm hesitant to give details to someone who called me. I would MUCH prefer to contact them on a number that I can confirm where I am actually talking to them and not someone in Mumbai. That would kind of defeat the purpose of this whole affair. Any suggestions on how to contact PayPal directly?

    try putting 02 in front of the 8223 #. they kinda have a trashy customer service that mostly requires a log in
    i just logged in and had a look for you, i got a different number than the ones you've listed but they make you put in a unique number specific to your account to verify id so i doubt this method would be much help either

    two things you can try, a long shot would be the app if you have it already on your phone, second would be the community thread perhaps an admin/cust serv can pm you some help

      I have the app, but it still requires 2FA.

      Community also requires 2FA

      I was able to call the 1800 number from a different landline and it worked. Got everything fixed.

      What a mission….

      Still, it all comes back to the adage "A pinch of prevention is better than a pound of cure."
      I'd rather mess around with changing my details rather than dealing with scam calls or people actively trying to hack my accounts.

      I'm just glad they didn't have my drivers licence number on file to be released….

    I have a similar problem with my UK PayPal account - I used to live there and never had a problem using my UK PayPal account abroad to pay in GBP… until they introduced 2FA and by then my UK mobile number had expired and the mobile number likely recycled…

    So right now I cannot log into my UK PayPal, even though I have some credit in the account and still get the regular emails… interestingly though I can still pay with PayPal on accounts that remember my UK payment method (e.g., Xbox and Microsoft store) that doesn't require me to log into PayPal again.

    Gave up a while back trying to find a way to contact PayPal; will visit UK soon and will try to get my old number back or instead get a new UK mobile number and create a new UK PayPal account.

    Am interested though to hear if you are able to find a resolution to this problem.

    • Hey Bengal Tiger, sorry to hear about your troubles there.

      I was able to call the 1800 no from a different landline and fixed it up. The way they have set up their phonenumbers is really annoying.

      PensionerXXL has listed their contact details, why not give it a try (and be prepared to try from various different phones). Maybe they have access to ALL paypal details?

  • No one use paypal anymore since ebay ditched them.
    Horrible customer service as well
