Probably Brunswick St in Fitzroy for street clothes shopping, Chapel for slightly more upmarket and the city is pretty decent for certain things, try little collins/melbourne central

  • There is an olga berg handbag outlet store in collingwood. Very cheap, not seconds. The charlie brown outlet in the outlet centre near Jeff's shed can be absolutely fabulous.

  • If you're into sport and like museums, check out the one in the MCG, it's packed full of Cricket, AFL and general athletic stuff.

If you want to do some shopping, check out Harbour Town at Docklands. Some serious bargains to be had there. Near Costco too if you want to check that out.

    • Checked it but not too many brands on sale at this time lol, Just levi outlets

  • I will be visiting Melbourne in late June/early July as well, and I too am interested in what to visit near the city. I'll be with wife & 2 kids though and they don't particularly enjoy shopping.

    Museums? Galleries? Any recommendations?

Melbourne Zoo - having been a world traveler I'm proud that Melbourne's zoo is still among the best in the world.

      Scienceworks - It's a science museum

Melbourne Museum - It's relatively new.

As another poster recommended the MCG's Sports Museum is outstanding.

Federation Square - in the heart of the city. Is home to national gallery and some ACME.

Go to an AFL game if you're interested in sports, preferably at the MCG. That's pure Melbourne culture there.

      • +1 Melbourne Zoo. Puts Australia Zoo up here to shame.

    • Just came back from Melbourne. With 2 kids definitely Scienceworks, Federation Square (which currently has Game Masters on) and Melbourne Museum.

      • Game masters is fantastic for as for being free too!

        • no, it's not?

        • It is, enquire at the counter to which part is free.

  • China Red in Bourke St CBD for excellent dumplings

    • I Got to say shanghai village another place in the CBD dumplings was great value for the food but can't say much about service though. Can't go wrong with 15 pork dumplings for 6.80

great ocean rd for a day trip
afl game, mcg or etihad stadium

    • botanical gardens is free

I believe there's a small charge to get into the Australian Garden at Cranbourne, but well worth it from what I've been told.

  • [chapel st, prahran]
    - upper class fashion
    - general pants
    - industrie
    - lee jeans

    [harbourtown, docklands]
    - wide range of fashion of all sorts
    - they've also got a big Factorie store
    - lots of cheap bargains and quality brands

    [chadstone shopping centre, oakleigh]
    - its like parramatta westfield 2.0
    - lots of great brands

    • Thanks will definitely check harbourtown

  • Melbourne Museum has an imax theatre doesn't it?

  • the airport is the best place in melbourne…on the way in and out again..lol

  • Sunhine railway station
    Dandy plaza
King street ( best at night!)

  • Great i guess no one asked this.. i'm very likely to visit Melbourne next week.. what are the discount and coupons i can use for attractions etc. I'd like to ozbargain my holiday.

Already got free accommodation sorted out.. might give a little cash as a thankyou for the free stay.

    • I use group buy vouchers in melbourne and have never gotten a run around in redeeming them. Their economy is way depressed relative to perth.

Just research the provider before buying and maybe try to book.

Do NOT use WINE GUYS tour in the Yarra Valley.
