Porting with New Drivers License

Hi OzB community, how do you port into a new carrier if you changed your drivers license number for security reasons. Say you’re with Optus, then changed your drivers license number, and wanted to port into Telstra. Do you submit a port request with old drivers license used to port into Optus or new drivers license? Thanks

Porting is done with your account number for postpaid or date of birth for prepaid. The licence is just for ID checks, not porting. So you can just use your new licence with the new provider.

    • date of birth for prepaid.

      that's too easy

        that's too easy

        That's what the hacker said…

        • So hackers can port it back ? 🤣

Even account number is too easy, and one of the most requested queries for store or call ups.

New regs have added a req to receive an SMS and confirm the port on the existing Sim before a port

        • People who do not know it yet have been too loyal to their providers.

        • What if said hacker tells optus they have lost the sim card? obviously cannot receive a SMS confirmation prior to porting the number/replacing the sim card?
Worrying thing is previously you would have the sim sent to your address, or you would go to optus store.

But now they could issue the hacker an e-sim instantly?

          • @Brick50: In that case, you may have to provide more evidence. Probably eSIM is not an option here.

          • @Brick50: Then you'd have to go in-store and get a SIM swap with your primary ID.

You seriously want to hand your new licence number over to another carrier 🤣🤣

    • They could give the new number to Optus first, and then the porting would be easy

New carrier will want to do ID check so it’s unavoidable

  • If your are in NSW, when requesting a replacement licence, they will provide you with a new “card number” but the licence number remains the same, unless you specifically requested a new licence number.

Apparently this is enough as from 1st September, new rules require banks etc… to do an ID check with both the licence and card number.

    That’s my understanding anyways
