Full game is now f2p with microtransactions for battle pass to unlock skins and whatnot.
The game is also cross platform to increase player based.
Try it for yourself, if you dont like it just del it.

Honestly don’t think it’s a DDOS, they’ve just massively underestimated the interest in the game. Giving off myGov ddos excuses vibes.
Pretty poor handling from the beta, way too much interest not enough backend, servers are simply shitting themselves and blizzard is calling it a DDoS to cover their ass.
I like big backend and I cannot lie.

why? You're getting pretty much the same thing with added extra. It was dying on higher level due to not many players, this they can combine the community and let it grow bigger. I wonder if this will be a cash cow for blizzard
They'll probably release 'Overwatch Classic' or something or rather a few years down the track, a re-release of Overwatch 1 and charge for it

It's really like overwatch 1.5 is going free to play and this is a tactic to introduce a bunch of micro-transactions to an abandoned game people paid money for.
Is it true cross platform - ie PC (with mouse and keyboard) vs console with controller? Is there any way to select what consoles/control types you are playing against..?
Also, are all the micro transactions for games like this (f2p shooters) purely for cosmetic stuff, or can people pay to get better weapons more often/better load outs etc…?Answer is not simple yes/no for crossplay. There is no crossplay for competitive mode. Teams must be full PC or full console to queue together in competitive mode. For non-competitive you can queue with friends kb/m PC and console but if there is at least one PC player on the team then everyone will have aim assist disabled. Full console teams will have aim assist enabled. You can uncheck crossplay for matchmaking if you want. I suspect most console players will do this.
With microtransactions they are mainly cosmetic except for unlocking new heroes. Can pay to unlock new heroes which they will release from time to time but you can also grind for them (no loot box system). I expect they will make the grind pretty long though otherwise they won't make any money.

While I don't like the f2p model it's not quite as bad as what you're saying. If you paid money for OW1 you get to keep all those legacy heroes. So you still get to keep what you paid for. New OW2 players who have never paid will have to grind to unlock heroes or pay money to speed it up.

One of those rare games that does something different, and yet still comes off as being generic and one dimensional. Quite the accomplishment.
I downloaded this on XSX and it's saying it's a trial? Is this free for only one day?
Also went to try it and it says "Sorry, Overwatch free trial not available right now".
Are there private lobbies you can just play with mates (ideally with bots to even it out)?
this is NEW release? the free play options are amazing these days to kick it with mates a few hrs a week… as long as you dont get sucked in by all the micro-transactions!
