Way back when, I actually paid for this. Well, I rebought the game when it relaunched with the Rivals DLC thing in box.

I can't post it because the web store is EOL, but if you still have a PS3 and jam out to Rock Band in 2022, jump on and buy the Dr Feelgood album. I was feeling a Motley kick when the movie came out a couple years back and bought a song or two before finding the entire album, for whatever reason, was $8.55 normal price. All songs import into RB4.

Great time to jump back in, they've been releasing some great DLC recently (moar Muse!)

Annoyingly I actually bought the digital version recently because my PS4 disc drive kicked the bucket. Oh well.

  • It's been ages since I looked at RB on Playstation, but I thought you couldn't free-play the songs anymore, and could only do the first dozen "story" songs? As they shut down the streaming side that played the music videos in the background?

If it's still an option… boy I know what I'm doing tonight!

You're thinking of an entirely different game, which is Guitar Hero Live.

Yes, they did shut down the music-streaming portion of the game in 2018. Only the 42 on-disc songs are playable.

The Guitar Hero Live controller is not compatible with Rock Band 4, BTW.

  • They REALLY need to release Guitar Hero WITH DRUMS again on PS5.

    So much fun was had.

    • Rock Band 4 is playable on the PS5, and it supports drums.

If you still have the Rock Band 1 drum kit (back when Kmart cleared the bundle for $50), it should still work.

      • I don't have it but I have just bought an electric drum kit… can that be used?

If yes, I'll source a Rock Band 4 from somewhere!

I use my e-kit with RB4, it's fantastic. It should work with any drums which have a MIDI output. However, you'll need to buy a Playstation MIDI pro adapter. It came out about a decade ago so they're not super easy to find and can be quite expensive.

There's some unofficial, DIY-style versions you can buy from folk online if you do some digging. You can also apparently open up the Wii version and make it work with Playstation quite easily, and the Wii version is currently only 60 bucks on Amazon

            @GSDan: cheers for the info

@GSDan: The wii version is what I did - VERY straightforward and worked right away. I put it off a long time from fear Id waste $60 not being technical enough but you just open up the dongle and pull a single fuse using a tweezer

            • @augernised: Nice one. Kinda tempted to do the same even just to have a backup

    • Phil Spencer has already ear-marked Guitar Hero for a reboot following the Activision-Blizzard acquisition.
      So, it's a possibility!

I think RB4 on Xbox one with my ion drum rocker is my most prized possession. Great post OP, I want to support HMX however I can to keep Rock Band from dying, it's probably the game I play the most.

    • Do you have the PDP Legacy drum adapter? (To go along with the Midi Pro adapter)

      • I have the PDP wired legacy adapter, but not the midi adapter. I have a modified my ion kit with a DIY electronic double kick controller (with DIY modified pedals), but otherwise the rest is standard.

        • I thought you need the Midi Pro adapter to connect the PDP adatper to the Xbox One. Regardless, hold on to the PDP for dear life.

Chiming in to say I play RB4 everyday via an edrum kit and its still incredible. They still had new DLC weekly and this rivals pack has online play. rhythm games will never die
