        Don't even own a xbox

      • +8

Mate I'm a huge Sony fan and even I think this was an unnecessary release.

      • +4

Own a PS, Love TLOU, Still a cash grab

        • -1

          No it isn't

          • @mmcgr97: From what I've read, they would have had staff waiting around between projects so they put them to work, to get cash for their next big projects. So yes, a cash grab. A smart move though, don't have to lay off staff while the company is waiting for pre-production, get more money in for next projects.

        • -1

Xbox fanboys can own PS's too

      • Are you projecting? Why are you bothered if some people think this is a vague grab? Weird

    • +8

      Bu1lT fRoM t3H GrOuNd uP 🥴

      • 😅

      • -4

Tell me you're an xbox fanboy without telling me

    • -1

You just inadvertently put that old CASH TRAIIIN ad back in my head.

Also, agreed, the ps4 remaster still holds up fine.

  • Bargain!

  • +18

Ah yes, Last of Us Part 1, the forth release in the Last of Us series. I too am a fan of Star Wars.

  • +12

    HODLLLL

  • +37

Wake me up when this is $30

    • +1

      30/09/2023

    • +9

Wake me up when it's $10

    • +2

Wake me up before you go go

  • It will drop even further by Xmas anw. Imo not worth it any more than $50.

  • +4

Insert Ellie's favourite dad jokes here ↓

I like sign language, they're quiet handy.

  • LOL

  • +3

Just buy preowned from EB and get the full refund within 2 weeks after completing it. The game is quite short.

    • +2

Don't need to be a preowned copy lol

    • +10

This is what I did (though just regular pre-order, easily done <1 week)

Didn't feel any different from the PS4 remaster IMO, I thought atleast some gameplay changes from Part 2 would be back-ported, but it was more or less identical apart from some duelsense stuff. Meh.

    • -3

Short ? I seem to remember slogging through this game for ages, waiting for some kind of story

    • +2

I don't like eb games but don't do that, it's just scummy

  • +19

Not disputing the bargain here, but I'm a bit over seeing these remasters being pumped out again and again each generation. The original mustn't be any more than 10 years old and here's the third release of it. Crazy.

    • +3

Why the downvote? I don't mind, but I'm curious as to why what I said bothered someone.

    • +4

but I'm a bit over seeing these remasters

I didn't neg you. It is a remake, not remaster.

      Rest checks out so +1

  • +1

That's just BS PRICE! I know it's remastered for PS5, but surely for $78, it better be extra content in there…

    • +2

      It's a remake, not remaster.

      • +3

If this is a "remake", it sets the bar pretty low. It's really just an engine port to their new engine (of which they already have the majority of assets done from Part 2).

        • +5

          Roughly:

Remaster - Original game engine with updates, higher screen resolution, higher texture resolution, possibly bug fixes and rebalancing. Example: The Last of Us Remastered for PS4.

Remake - Engine is new, new assets, modernised inteface and controls, designed to heavily resemble and play like the original. Example: The Last of Us Part 1 for PS5.

Reimagining - Game is made modern with a fresh perspective, very little of the original gameplay is carried across. Example: Final Fantasy VII Remake.

          • +2

@FabMan: Agreed, although for this the engine and assets aren't new, they've been ripped straight from Part 2. This feels like the RE3 remake where many complained that it felt like it was DLC

            • +2

@cille745: I meant new for that game, not brand new, like if you go from Unreal 3 to Unreal 4. Unreal 4 is old and used in many other games, but could be new for that title. If that makes sense.

    • I’d like to play Factions against other PS5s on a nice OLED TV and fast internet…

  • +16

Ff7 remake made sense, this does not

  • +5

    the goat story game

  • One of my favourite games of all time. Almost worth jumping in again. HODL

    • -1

Yeah it's an awesome game. I loved it. If you wanna jump in again, it's $9 for the ps4 remaster at jbhifi atm.

  • -2

The slow and boring Tlou2 has ruined my passion for the original, which was my favourite story driven game of all time. Maybe when it gets to $20…

    • I wouldn't say Part 2 was slow or boring. If anything, the plot was too heavy and contrived.

The first game had a very basic plot and focused on character relationships. The second one basically threw a bunch of uninteresting characters together (including the new Ellie) in a frantic mess of killing.

      • That's exactly what I thought the first time I played it. I recently tried to replay it and couldn't get past the beginning I was so bored.

  • +2

Wasn't the remaster on the PS4 good enough? What could this possibly offer the first game beyond Part II'ifying it (which is an epic downgrade IMO).

    • +4

People that played it on PS3 said the same about PS4 remaster. Think of new players that never played it, this is their version and the best available.

      • +1

exactly, just got my PS5 and haven't had a PS since PS2. Have heard great things about this game and keen to play… $50 would be better :)

      • +2

The PS4 remaster was already playable on the PS5 though. Not sure why they did this version.

        • +4

It's part of Sony's strategy to expand their first party titles to PC. The PC port of TLOU is coming soon, and they weren't going to just port the old PS4 version and leave it at that.

  • -2

This cost less than 5 bux on ps3, and gameshops don’t even want to buy it back lmao 😂

  • +4

Too many cynics commenting on this game! A Brilliant ATG story driven game. Worth remaking and preserving for future generations who haven't played it yet.

I recently (this year) replayed the PS4 Remaster and can already see the remake is a strong forward move in technology and graphical fidelity. And a great amount of polish for those due a refresher before the series releases.

    • +5

I do agree that it's a very good game, but it's still there for future generations? Something released on a ps3/ps4 hasn't gone anywhere. It's still there and accessible.

Wouldn't it be better if gaming companies put their time towards developing new games?

      • +1

Who says Devs aren't developing new games? The remasters/remakes are usually taken on by small teams in independent studios. Most of the development is already done, updating a quick process streamlined in modern game engines. The work done updating assets and engine tweaks feed into new productions as well.

Sure, TLOU I played still holds up now, but it was looking a little rough around the edges. IMO it is worth updating with all new assets and the features in a modern engine. Future proof the hell out of it.

        • +1

Perhaps I could've been clearer. I didn't mean to imply that they weren't developing new games. I was trying to say they should put all their resources towards these new games.

I'm cynical about the idea of 'future proof'ing these games. Future proofing until they can pump it out again on the PS6, you mean?

          • @Orion au: If theres improvement to be made on the PS6 then why not? Hopefully this remake gets a PC release alongside Part 2 too. This remake brings up the technical standard a bit more on parity with Part 2.

            • +3

@burns13: Fair enough. I don't agree - I don't think games (or any kind of media) need to be consistently updated and cutting edge to remain a relevant experience - but fair enough. Many others seem to agree with you.

A PC release isn't the worst idea though.

              • +3

@Orion au: Personally I just like to play a lot of old games that I missed out on back in the day. So I will always support remasters. Agree with you, the marketing looks bad and definitely a cash grab from that point of view.

But if youre someone who wants to pick up Mafia, Mass Effect, Resident Evil etc for example to see what the fuss was about these remasters are far superior than the buggy unportable, unstable, ugly messes that were previously relied on.

PC modding community helps out to a degree but old software is unlike old films. Eventually outdated software becomes inaccessible redundant and frankly unappealing experiences as tech moves on.

          • +1

@Orion au: Don't you think the money from these remasters/remakes IS providing the resources being used to make new games?

I think people dont realise the massive budgets these kinds of games require to be made. I dont think it's surprising that these companies want to get more life out of them than just the initial release.

          • +1

@Orion au: Naughty Dog did this project to keep their technical staff on hire while they work on preproduction of something else in the background. If they didn't do this they would have let everyone go

    • +1

Thing is, the graphics engine is the one used in part 2, so it is PS4/PS4 Pro based. If this is based on a brand new PS5 graphics engine with ray tracing, then it would be different.

So this is really PS4/PS4 Pro engine with proper PS5 patch / quality of life fast loading improvement. The excuse of "for the new comers / people have not played this" doesn't make sense. So what exactly does Sony expect of people who played The Last of Us part 1 from previous versions? Replay the old version(s)?

      • +4

It may sound unfathomable but dont play it if you don't want to! If down the line youre due a replay (which surprisingly fresh experience after a few years).

There will be a fresh remade 2022 copy waiting for you instead of the dusty 2016 ps4 pro patched version. Probably at a sizeable discount.

        • +2

You don't get it, do you? This version is released because Sony will most likely release a PC version of the game. Without this version, the PC version will be far too good. While releasing this version is okay, the price is not.

If you loved this game so much, in terms of preserving the game and the best way to play it, it will be the PC version in the long run.

          • +1

@netsurfer: The marketing is a cash grab but Sony are a business and maxxing the value. How predictable and gross but it is what it is….

The console version is released first because it is the most uniform version of the game and also least likely to be pirated. Once the PC version is released, like GOW and Spiderman it will probably be a full balls to the wall complete experience. Moddable and customisable to all the different variations of hardware out there.

    • You're acting as if the PS4 remaster doesn't work on PS5 - it does and for <$20. Not $78.

      • +1

PS4 remastered version does work, but there is no fast loading. So, for people who have played the game before and may want to replay it later, there will have to play the inferior version?

Another issue is that there is a possibility a PC version might be released. If so, does it still make sense to fork out this much for this version? How many times does Sony want to milk us for the same game?

      • +1

I already said the "original" experience still holds up, just looks a little rough around the edges. I recently replayed it on the PS5 and enjoyed the game in full. The PS4 Remaster had additional 2016 PS4 Pro patch that added various performance modes and work perfectly with PS5.

The remake was a service to gamers to bring Part 1 on parity with Part 2. It was not a disservice. No idea why cynical commenters bring down a good thing.

Fk paying full price again if youve already played it though….

        • Sony has to release the "new" console version before the PC version, otherwise, too many people will go for the console version.

Thing is, there will be another part 2 "version" which can take advantage of at least PS5 fast loading. Also, at least give people who own PS4 version (which honestly was a minor update to the PS3 version, rather than a proper PS4 version).

Is having your #1 studio re-working on PS4 titles for PS5 for years really such a good idea. Let's not lie to ourselves and dream that Naughty Dogs have most of their developers working on a new title. Neil Druckmann is pretty much still on the Last of Us series. The Last of Us Part 2 Factions is long overdue. Nathan Drake returning for Uncharted 5 is unlikely (let's just say Neil and Nolan North don't really get alone that well). So what's next? The Last of Us Part 3?

  • -1

    Hodl

  • +2

This one will drop faster than normal, most remake/remasters do. Demon's Souls may be an exception, but that was a full new game compared to this.

  • +1

wait for it on ps plus in a year

  • If there are enough fans to buy this, they will make a re-re-re-make part2 for $100+.LOL

    • +2

They WILL release a new part 2, possibly when they release the multi-player game. That's the next game Naughty Dog will release.

I really wish we can get some proper PS5 titles, rather than PS3 / PS4 remake / remaster from Naughty Dog.

  • -4

    So many cry babies.

If the previous remaster is good enough and this is barely any different (which is wrong since it's a huge upgrade…) then simply don't buy it.

This clearly isn't aimed at you.

No point sulking because you want the very best and latest of something but aren't willing to pay for it.

    • +6

So many sheeps looking to defend greedy companies jeez

      • +1

Pure laziness defines the era of gaming we find ourselves in.

      • When people hit puberty, they realise that the world isn't some paradise and that all businesses are 'greedy' and after your money.

Acting like the business cares about u is straight up saaaaad :(

    • The PS4 remaster version doesn't really use the PS4 graphics engine.
This PS5 "remake" version uses PS4/PS4 Pro graphics engine.

There should be a cost effective upgrade path for existing owners. Sony either needs to implement Microsoft's equivalent of QuickResume or offer a version that support fast loading on PS5.

    • Sulkers will be sulkers.

  • $9 when?

    • Have Microsoft purchased Sony and put this on GamePass - unlikely.
Sony puts this on higher tier of PS Plus - hopefully next year.

    • When cook299 starts to exist

  • Waiting for house of the dead remake

  • I'll buy it when it hits Steam.

  • +8

I can't understand why some got so hurt by this version. You played the old one? Fine. New players can pick this and be happy.

  • How long until this is on ps plus extra? Please don't be over a year from now.

  • +4

Used to be “fck why the remake again and for $120”

Then I realised, man, I have 77’ c2. Why not”

Finished twice last week. 1000/10 different experience.

  • +2

If only OZB users were this enthusiastic when Nintendo released the whole Nintendo WiiU catalog into the Nintendo Switch

    Things would have been different.

    • +2

Yes TLOU is definitely the type of emotional storytelling that hasn't been seen since Captain Toad: treasure tracker

    • Yeah but hardly anyone owned a Wii U

  • -2

    Lucky I don't own a PS5

  • -5

Paid $9 for ps4 version. Damn Inflation.

  • +3

I'm glad this version exists, it gives me another option to play one of my favourite games.

  • -5

I can't believe people pay that much for a game. Wait a few months and it will be half price, a year and it will be $15

  • Seems kind of pointless when you can buy the ps4 version for significantly less. That's what i did when i bought it for my brother
