Sydney Dentist Recommendation for Crown

Hi OB community, I am travelling OZ in a caravan and today I broke a tooth on some really really hard ciabatta toast.

I need your recommendations for a good dentist in the Sydney area to get a dental crown. I am looking for quality dentistry at a reasonable price. All help is greatly appreciated and feel free to throw in a pun or joke or two as expected.

  • Sydney is a big place, which part of Sydney are you in?

    • I will be passing through Sydney in a month or so. I can travel to any part of the Sydney area to get the crown.

If you are certain you need a crown, usually the process takes multiple appointments. First appointment to examine and xray the tooth to ensure it is appropriate for a crown. Then you need an appointment for the crown preparation. You then need to wait for the lab to make the crown and return for a final appointment to have the crown inserted. Just FYI in case you are travelling and it is time sensitive.
Alternative is a direct restoration or filling which possibly could be done in a single appointment.
You may also be able to find a dentist who does same day crowns (they may have their own crown milling machine in their office).
I'm located in Penrith area but there are many excellent dentists around who can help you.

        • Thank you I have had this tooth examined and x-rayed in Brisbane it was assessed for a crown and only a superficial piece broke off that would most likely have needed to be ground down anyway. Now it’s quite irritating to my tongue.

        • I don’t agree that you can just simply pick any dentist and they will be good from my past experiences one dentist can charge $4k for a crown while the other can charge $1700 some even $1000. Hence why I am looking for recommendations based on OB’s experiences.

Burwood, pick a dentist and pay cash

  • Do you have private health insurance and does your provider have a dental service?
I know that NIB and HCF have their own dental centres. Using their service should save you some $$.

I'd get a second opinion on the crown. Ask about an onlay. These can be almost as strong, and you retain much more of the the natural tooth. Costs half the price. There's a dental practice in Rose Bay that specialises in these, Hooper i think it is.

    • Useful information thank you I will look them up and thanks for the tip I will ask about onlays.
