    Oh, wow! ZebraLight time!

ZebraLight are based in the US and stopped shipping overseas during the start of the pandemic.

    I bought a SC64c LE, H600Fc Mk IV, H502pr in 2020 to name a few.

nkon is one of their dealers on Europe.
Bright Nite is their dealer in Australia.

I used ShopMate to get an SC64w HI from the US because Bright Nite didn't have it in stock.

    I just ordered the SC700D.

I was looking at getting a friend in China to order the SC700D from Taobao. It would have cost $150 but then I'd have to pay for shipping on top of that from China to Australia. There aren't many reviews on the Taobao store so I'm not sure if it's legit. It's much less hassle getting it locally.

I'd highly recommend the H600Fc Mk IV headlamp. It's super comfortable and has a warm floody beam. It's my favourite headlamp. I have about seven different headlamps. ArmyTek Wizard C2 Pro Nichia comes close…

    • So.. how many “lights” do you own?

      • +6

        Uh… A little over 70 😅

        • -1

          Wtf?

        • +1

          A late bloomer

        • That’s heaps haha - what do you mostly do with them?

          • @SlifSlif: I probably use about six of them a week around the house and down the park.

The most recent ten or so have been gifted by torch companies for review.

I like to modify and review torches. 😅

            • @Tim Mc: Fair enough! Must have some good reviews out there for companies to send you gear - though it makes sense when you own more than 70 haha.. thanks for the responses!

              • @SlifSlif: My latest review was a bit critical of the thermal regulation (the light output went up and down by 1000 lumens every minute) and the awkward user interface. But I try to be thorough. 😅

I'll try to do fewer reviews so that it doesn't become a grind.

  • ZebraLight SC700D $160.96 delivered 🤯

    • Spewin! I'm paying bob_mcbob a premium to drop in a dedomed XHP70.3. At $161 I could have put up with 70.2 5000k 90CRI 😁

      • Dedomed XHP70.3 sounds better! I'd like to swap the emitter in mine but heard it's a pain.

You can get the Fenix C7 for almost half that price which does the same 3000Lm but for half the time, 1hr. Maybe worth the compromise?

ZebraLight H503r is about $97.97 after discount.

It has only just been released!

The older H502pr with the older UI was a little bit more expensive.

H503r has the modern UI I believe, so it's more configurable.

    It's ideal for astrophotographers.

    • Torch n00b here, what’s so good about ZebraLight?

Re Astronomy, I have a telescope but not into astrophotography yet (manual dobsonian).

      • +1

Their lights are efficient (one ran for over 400 days on the lowest setting with a single 18650 cell).

They are pretty small and lightweight.

The electronics are potted to help prevent components from breaking off when dropped.

        Build quality is really nice.

The user interface isn't for everyone. Some love it, some hate it.

There have been some quality issues. The glass lens in my SC64w HI rattled so they replaced the torch.

        • +1

Thanks, sounds pretty good then. Potting also helps with the waterproofing.

There are so many torch brands around, most being good quality. It’s hard to know what’s a good bang for buck.
I was looking at getting a Nebo the other day but missed the sale. They seem good too.

          • +1

@GeneralSkunk: Nebo & Zebralight are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Not a lot of serious torch enthusiasts have a Nebo torch, most have at least one Zebralight. Nebo is made for the mass market, ZL a bit more niche for people who understand what makes a torch tick and want the most efficient, proven design.

    • Do you have any recommendations for torches around the $80-100 mark? This seems good:
      https://www.brightnite.com.au/collections/torches/products/k…

      • +1

I'd shop around if you're looking at brands like Klarus, Fenix, Nitecore etc where multiple retailers in Australia may have slightly different discounts.

It's a bit hard to say which torch. It depends how you want to use it or if you prefer certain features.

You can find independent reviews by 1lumen, zeroair etc for heaps of torches. They've measured the runtime, beam intensity, beam distance etc.

Thanks Rep, got the Zebralight H53fc for some night hikes!

  • I’m after a torch to take for some night hikes, but don’t really want to spend $50.. is there anything in the $30 range that would be suitable? Last time I bought a CREE C5, but seemed to have misplaced it

    • Nothing good for $30. Best value Sofirn SP40 lithium ion 18650 or HS05 standard AA or 14500 lithium ion https://sofirn.aliexpress.com/store/group/LED-Headlamp/29330… or sofirnlight.com

Edit: Most efficient and best quality - Zebralight

    • $32 Wuben C3 comes with 18650 battery

      • I’ve spent too much money at Amazon the last few days!

  • I just went camping and realized i need a good headlamp. Any suggestions?

    Maybe a good flashlight too?

  • Javelot Turbo hunting kit seems to be at a really good price. Tempting.

  • Can someone please recommend a headlamp that would be good for workshop use? I'm sick of chewing through 3xAAA every week in the shed. Not looking to spend too much. Thanks

    • +3

Skilhunt H04 RC. The version with a pebble optic to help diffuse the light for close up work. It takes an 18650 battery and has magnetic charging. It's about $90. I don't think Bright Nite stock it.

ZebraLight H600Fc MK IV is about $112 at Bright Nite. It has a wider beam. It's my favourite.

If you want something budget but good, Sofirn D25LR, Sofirn SP40, Sofirn SP40A. Wurkkos have some too. Disclaimer: I'm associated with Sofirn (they've sent me torches for review).

      • Does Zebraligh UI have memory?

I really don't like LedLenser headlight which starts on max every time then you can click into lower modes. It really blinds you first before you can get to lower modes.

        • +1

There is no memory. ZL UI has three shortcuts - click and hold, click and double click. By default single click is high, double click is medium and press & hold low. This is generally refereed to as G5 and can't be changed.

G6 & G7 can be customised. These are accessed by clicking 6 or 7 times from off (click 5 times to get back to default).

There are 12 set levels you can select for each shortcut. To align with a different torch UI, Anduril, I have programmed my G6 to low for click and hold, medium for click and high for double click. G7 is all set to medium for whatever you press for when I lend it to people who don't understand the UI.

I found this guide https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/comments/pehcf7/guide_ze… very helpful https://imgur.com/a/TYzxG2f

      • I can only see the H600D and H600Fw on Bright Nite. I've tried to find the differences on google, but haven't had any luck. Any chance you could explain it to a layman like me?

I'm just looking for a solid headlamp that will last, for use hiking and camping.

EDIT: I think I found it on Reddit:

        Color temperature:

        (nothing): cool white, usually 5700K
        d: daylight, 5000K
        w: neutral white, 4500K
        c: warm white, 4000K

F: reflector and frosted lens - more floody, but still stronger at the center. Around 90m FL1 throw.

      • I cannot find ZebraLight H600Fc MK IV in Bright Nite, there are only ZebraLight H600d Mk IV 18650 XHP50.2 5000K High CRI Headlamp and ZebraLight H600Fw Mk IV 18650 XHP35 Floody Neutral White Headlamp, and both are $159.95.

Do you know any online shop that has Armytek Wizard C2 pro, or nichia that is on sale?

        • Haven't searched for sales.
But I got Armytek Wizard C2 Pro Nichia from Amazon AU (imported from US) earlier this year for $146 and I really like it. From my point of view UI is good and 4500K looks great.

        • H600Fc Mk IV must have sold out. $112 after 30% discount.

flightstore has the Armytek Wizard WR Pro

          • +1

            @Tim Mc:

flightstore has the Armytek Wizard WR Pro

Yeah, but not the nice Nichia one. :)
