iPhone of mechanical pencil. Fully metallic body, weighted and balanced, feel very nice to write with.
I got that not everyone wants to spend $26.47 on mechanical pencil but then if you want to be a man person of culture, it is a great price.

Does Apple have a pencil that works? I think this device is in another class entirely.

Or maybe I’m just not using Apple-approved paper?

    P.S. Women have culture, too

Anyone else used to give themselves lead injections like it was a syringe?

It’s a good prophylactic treatment against those annoying scanners at airports

These are actually excellent. 0.7mm 2B Rotring gang.

      2B Rotring gang

Thanks. I’m in the NOT 2B gang. I use HB.

      • +4

2B or not… I suppose your answer is not as dark as I first thought

      • 0.5mm HB is the ultimate display of sophistication.

      • +1

I don't use anything softer than 2H because deep down I hate myself

    • +5

      0.5mm foreva…

  • +3

It is a tremendous pencil. The 0.5mm is preferable though

Amazon tells me I purchased it at $19.10 in November 2019.

It's still going strong, but I think I deserve a spare, as sometimes I misplace it and have to use ordinary pencils. That's a traumatizing experience 😱

    • +1

I share this sentiment too. Except I purchased 10 months ago for $19.66

  • +9

Any deals for people who got their pen licence?

    • +1

Don’t push it too much until you get some experience

  • Papermate FTW

  • I find with this model you can fit a bic pen lid on the nib to stop it from getting squashed or stabbing ya leg 😅

    • It looks better suited for desk use rather than pocket use anyway TBH

I just bought a pencil for $26.5. I hate myself

That tip looks like it's asking to be snapped off at the smallest drop…

    • I have read on Reddit that the nib can bend if you drop it on a hard surface or pressure is applied but if pencils are hitting the ground the leads are gonna shatter inside anyways 🤷‍♂️

      • +4

Well leads are fairly cheap and easy to replace, luckily. Tips, no so much.

      • +1

If you are a doer more than a consumer, try Writtit for more appropriate reviews

    • A bic pen cap fits over the tip pretty well

  • +3

0.7 Megametres seems a little impractical for a pencil 🤔

    • But very practical for the Bathurst 1000

      • 👍🏻 Very close, might need the next size up then: OP, does it come in 1.0Mm?

    • +2

Wait until you see the matching notepad

    I love my uni kuru
It's a super strong build and easy maintenance The rotating lead is also a big selling point.

    • The Kuru Toga should rightfully be called the iPhone of mechanical pencils. The Kuru Toga and its advanced version actually introduced a new innovation to mechanical pencils whereas the Rotring is just made of nice materials. You can also get a metallic Kuru Toga if you want a premium build.

    • It's definitely quite a nice pencil at a reasonable price: I do find however that I don't write with enough pressure to actually activate the rotating mechanism (maybe from using mostly fountain pens), so YMMV.

    • same there are some very interesting japanese pencils out there. this was one of my fav.

    • +1

The Kuru is my favourite at the moment too, it's really well built.

And they also sell it at officeworks

    Flipping expensive.
Just google Mechanical Pencil metal clutch grip for cheaper alternatives.
The AUD is pretty shite right now.

I have the white one. Such a joy to use.

    • With so many options at Officeworks, starting at one tenth of the "special" price for a Rotring, one had to wonder WHY. One can use the same 0.7 lead refills in any of these, so the result will be the same, no matter which pencil you're holding, and some of the options feel way better in ones hand than the Rotring.

This is a drafting pencil, so although it’s solid and hefty, it doesn’t offer a lot when it comes to writing (I find that metal knurled grips aren’t the most comfortable for writing). Check out the Uni Kuru Toga which has a mechanism that rotates the lead as you write so it is consistently sharp (I find it’s really good for maths, but not so much for cursive writing as you need to lift pressure from the pencil for the mechanism to rotate). I also really like the Pentel Orenz which you just need to click once to write, no more extra clicking (it’s automatic, so most of the lead stays inside the tip which has an additional benefit of zero lead breakage risk). Or if you want just a trusty, reliable conventional mechanical pencil, you can’t go wrong with a Pentel P205 (I still use my brother’s which he bought in the 80s and it’s still perfectly fine aside from a bit of oxidation on the metal). And all three options are much cheaper than this pencil.

This is a fantastic pencil for drafting, but I prefer the Uni Kuru Toga and Zebra Delguard for writing. The Kuru Toga keeps lead sharper, while the Delguard prevents lead from breaking with its pressure sensitive retraction mechanism.

0.9mm? Might as well write with a crayon…

  • +1

Rotring 600 used to be my pencil of choice — until I got the 800. Almost identical to the 600 except, crucially, it has a retractable tip. It's a win for pockets, and a win for not bending the nib if you drop it or by just moving around in your bag.
