I'm Looking For A Small Car Loan... Advice?

Hey guys,

I just need an additional 10k to buy a second hand car that I'm interested in. I can afford to pay the bulk in cash but I'm a little short and I want the car now and plan to pay off the loan in a year or two. What's the best lender with the lowest interest rate for car loans? Is there an aggregator that compares loan rates that I could use?

  • Have you got an existing mortgage that you can redraw on? That would be the cheapest interest rate. But if you don't make extra payments (on top of the mortgage payments) to pay down that extra portion that you're redrawing, the total interest on it will be much more than what it would've been had you taken out a car loan at a higher interest rate.

Save your money and pay it outright.

Buy a beater until you get enough to buy what you need

    • There are no beaters under 5/6k now that won’t fall to pieces on your first drive home

Lol, what sort of used car are you buying that you can afford the "bulk in cash", but need a "small loan" of $10k? Is it $100k?

  • Will the extra cost of the loan interest/fees be worth getting it now than buying a similar car outright later?

  • Goodluck, second hand cars are definitely nowhere near as cheap as they used to be. Especially if you need it with roadworthy and atleast reasonably reliable and safe.

  • Please tell me it’s a Euro!

Other than giving you a financial advice,
    Try https://www.canstar.com.au/car-loans/
Always read the fine print, most loans aren't design to pay it off sooner.

Don't know who would be the best or cheapest, but just go for the loan and don't listen to everyone here telling you its a bad idea. The $10-15 a week in interest you'd be paying is a small price to drive the car you want to drive now.

This is ozb mate. Some of these guys will spend hours of their day to save $5

    • 100%.
Theres a good use of a loan, and theres bad use.
If its a car that is genuinely $10k better, and will hold more value, its not a bad financial choice.

  • Last time I was looking into a car loan, which was a few years ago now, People’s Choice was highly recommended by a few people

I’m confused - are you wanting a loan for a small car? Or a small loan for an average or large sized car?

    I'm a little short

I don’t see how your height has any relevance. Certainly the lenders should not discriminate. In any case, if you feel self-conscious about your physical stature, perhaps do the application online.
