Audio-Technica ATH-GL3 Closed Back High Fidelity Gaming Headset $109 + Shipping ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

Reviews say they need to be EQed and they are very lightweight so the headband is a bit on the cheap side but that's normal because they don't need to do much to hold the light headphones up on your head.
Earpads are also a little on the firm side according to one youtube review. They also said if you are experiencing low volume then make sure the volume dial on the earcup is turned all the way up. Also make sure the cable is pushed in all the way otherwise you may experience sound/microphone issues.

I noticed in the pictures the GL3 Closed back headphones have a ring of fake leather on the outside of the pads, but the GDL3 Open back pads are the full fabric type so not much of a seal.

ATH-GDL3 is also on sale for $119 + shipping: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/audio-technica-ath-gdl3-o…

  • $99 at Minidisc - did not compare shipping rates, though
    https://www.minidisc.com.au/audio-technica-ath-gl3-closed-ba…

    • Free shipping on all orders in Australia according to Minidisc.

Damn good deal since JB HiFi is $6 for shipping with the cheapest option. I actually did a price search, but it was for the GDL3 and that's $129 from Minidisc so I thought the GL3 would also be more expensive. I was wrong.
Only reason to go with JB would be to get it quicker and pick up from the store tomorrow if getting it quicker is worth $10.

Also I guess returns would be easier with JB since they have stores nationwide. But cheaper is cheaper so yeah good deal at Minidisc for the GL3.

  • Qn. I have a pair of much older ATH-ADG1X, are these newer ones actually better?

    • +1

The model number is not similar in anyway so I don't think these will be a "newer version" of what you already have.
They might sound pretty different and not be what you expect.

    • +2

No, the ATH-ADG1X is arguably the better headphone and best gaming headset that Audio Technica has ever released.

Its pity ATH-ADG1X has been discontinued, else I would probably buy one.

      • I might sell one :D haha

      • Had a pair that I liked a lot until one of my rabbits chewed through the cord while I was using them. Went with a wireless pair after that, as it wasn't the first pair to suffer the same fate.

  • How do they compare to this one?

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/razer-barracuda-x-wireles…

I talked them down to $97.25 today, as i found them online cheaper and they chucked in an extra year warranty or something like that.

    • +1

less bass so actually would be beneficial for identifying footsteps. too much bass (such as on razer products) overpowers the sound of footsteps.

    • +1

Well for starters that headset is wireless.

Just read the first google review for the Barracuda X. "Worst headset I've ever used" doesn't read too good. They say it randomly beeps and mutes and the battery life is terrible YMMV.
