Summer Saver Program (VIC)

Hi OzBargainers,

Long time lurker and second time posting.

I received a brochure in the mail from United Energy (local power distributor) about their Summer Saver Program and I thought I’d share as this is my 2nd year participating in the program.

This is only those who live in United Energy area. Also, it seems like not everyone can join to the program.

If you’re eligible you can earn some cash by turning off your power when you get notified.

I was skeptical before as I don’t believe in free lunch, but decided to try it as one of my mates participated too. Last year, United Energy asked to reduce my energy at 4pm on new year’s eve, which was a really hot day. I decided to go out for dinner at the local pub. I managed to earn a cool $50, which covered for dinner & more.

I wonder if anyone else knows about this and had a different experience?

        I see. I noticed in the notifications from them that I have a baseline of 4kWh. Not sure what yours is but I suspect that this contributes to how much you can reduce to earn

    This is actually pretty smart - and I know people already visit the shops or go see a movie during the peak heat times.
