Memory usage

Hi, I usually leave the Ozbargain website open & just refresh it from time to time during the day.
I have noticed in task manager that gradually (over a long period of time) it uses more & more memory. Once it gets up to 500K or so I really see a performace impact on my system. I close that tab, open a new one with ozbargain & it starts off very low again (although will gradually creap up again & the cycle continues.
Anyone else notice this? Any reasons / fixes?

  • I doubt that its the website causing this, more likely due to the coding of your web browser and it's associated add-ons.

Instead of using a web browser to monitor Ozb why not just subscribe to the RSS feed? Much easier that way.

  • It's called a memory leak if you want to read up on it - nothing to do with ozbargain, like scrimshaw said it's caused by coding behind the browser. Most programs leak memory if you leave them open long enough. Just close it & reopen & all the memory consumed goes back into the memory pool.

  • No conspiracy theory of OzBargain website forcing its visitors to spend money and upgrade their computers with more memory?

    Which browser are you using?

If the memory usage keeps going up while OzBargain just sits there idle, it might be caused by some plugins/extensions. The only page that OzBargain keeps on fetching new content is the Live page.
