To those who are fan of Yakuza series, thought want to give this a go, currently $79.00 on preorder includes delivery. Looks like Amazon price matched BigW https://www.bigw.com.au/product/like-a-dragon-ishin-ps5/p/24… but plus delivery, so I'd say getting from Amazon is better deal.

Also same price if you select other platform, as in Xbox series and PS4.

Game will be released on 21 Feb 2023, so even if you place preorder now, the price may go down in between then.

  • Given the Japanese versions of these games usually release in Japanese language only a year or more before the translated version comes out, has that been the case this time?

If so, is this game meant to be any good? I've played several Japanese editions of these Ryu ga Gotoku games and have found them initially immersive and interesting but the missions pretty samey and the combat tiresome after a while.

I played Kenzan! in Japanese but the Tokugawa-era language was too mystifying to follow. The period setting seemed cool, but a lot of the appeal of the modern games in this series is that Kamuro-cho is exactly like Kabuki-cho in Tokyo and there's product placement and all this stuff that's so Japanese it feels like you're there, so I can only assume there's less of that in the period setting.

Sega switched simultaneous release for these games. It's not all pros though. You no longer get all DLC included and the game doesn't launch with patches or has missing features.

This is a remaster of a PS3 era game that was only released in Japan.

The difficulty with localizing Ishin was the reason why this Yakuza game never made it to the west. It's exactly as you experienced, it was very Japan-eccentric and Sega didn't think it would translate properly. Ishin Like a Dragon is more like a Kiwami remake so it should better appeal to modern day Yakuza fans.

But I think if you have found the Yakuza games samey or tiresome then I think they're probably just not for you. The formula really hasn't changed much since Yakuza 0 get everyone's attention.

Given where we currently are with the series, Yakuza is a now a flagship franchise for Sega and Ishin has been long anticipated by fans I expect a lot of effort has been put into this game.

people play yakuza for the story plot…

          Don't forget the karaoke ;)

  • The last few Yakuza games have been releasing closer together, with lost judgement being simultaneous worldwide?

I'm 99% sure Ishin isn't getting an English voice cast so this should be simultaneously released too from memory

    • +1

Yep no english voice cast. Simultaenous release including PC on day 1.

I hope this has the racing car story line

    • +6

Pocket racing & hostess management are the real stars of the Yakuza franchise.

  • Finish the JP PS4 version, but still order PS5 Version to support the studio

  • I cannot wait to play this game, but damn 4 months pre-order in advance! Better lock it in now I guess

  • I hope Way of of Samurai would be remastered too.

  • +4

I'm still getting through Like a Dragon, these games are big and long but hilarious and addictive

Why are people still pre-ordering games?

    • It costs you nothing to preorder this.

      • +1

Funny, looks like it costs $79 to me

        • you don't get charged until it ships, so who's right?

          • +1

@shmoney: plus free delivery, so plmko is right. I like pre-ordering when you trust the developer and love the past catalog of games from them, but there are no guarantees other than you'll be amongst the first to play the game, which can feel pretty good in this short life :D
