What is the waiting time on a new one? Price aren't that cheap for second hand. Brand new is like $70k plus registration discounts for two years etc at least in ACT.

    • I waited 6 months for my M3 RWD, have seen some people waiting 1+ year for their M3 P. If you can't wait, buying second hand right now is a great option.

Congratulations, they've now turned cars into disposable toys. Time to dig all this shit out of the ground and then dump them after 5000kms so you can sit into an even more awkward looking car.

    • Too much !

      • Any idea what it costs?

        • +1

According to google around $16k https://www.makeuseof.com/how-much-cost-replace-tesla-batter…
          Warranty 8years/160k

            @boomramada:

            around $16k

So you need to add that on top of what you pay for the electricity.

What do they do with the old batteries?

            • +2

@jv: Old batteries will be reused for home storage initially. If they won’t drive a car, they will still likely suffice for the lower demand in a home storage system.

New battery plants are being built with recycling facilities.

Unlikely to need to replace the batteries for 10 or more years.

How much does it cost to replace an engine

      • +1

What makes you think engines need replacing after 10 years?

        • Laughs in Alloyec
          Laughs in Modern Kia

etc etc. Lots of modern engines don't last long.

        • +2

When did I say you need a new engine at 10years? I picked a random number, probably a conservative one based on what life battery packs seem to be getting.

That is, if you are expecting to replace an expensive battery pack, you should be expecting to replace an engine - despite neither of those things being a common occurance.

Looks to me like people that are trying to cash in on the high prices of the second hand market. I know a couple of people that have done this with ICE cars. Don't think it's exclusive to just EVs.

  • This was to be expected after the Y release announcement was made back in June. My mate works at that specific dealership and he shared pics of them all sitting there waiting for new owners. It was a very bland view!

    Wait for the dolphin byd.

  • was going for a bike ride on the weekend, and rode past a car yard. Had a quick look at their stock, and they had a 2017 model X 75D for $160k.

Being dumped? The prices quoted in your link are close to brand new prices.

    • Taking the opportunity to upgrade with near zero loss.

  • Trying to cash in on the (very rapidly slowing) booming used car market
