Part of Amazon's current Big Smile Sale.

I have 2 of these and they're quite good. Not fast charging and officially Magsafe-certified as the Belkin ones (15w vs 7.5w) but those are triple the price. This works well if it's just on your desk or charging overnight. Very strong magnet and has tiltable head.

Not historically the lowest price but still pretty good.

Requires USB-C AC Adapter.

    Magnetic Anker

Only works where the ocean floor is metal.

    • I begrudgingly admit that’s pretty funny

      • +2

Thanks for being positive and not negative.

        • +2

magnet puns are usually pretty polarising.

Had sorta written off magsafe and not bothered with it… but grabbed one of these for $34 a few months back when on special and been really happy with it. nice how you can put the phone on it without really looking and likewise take it off. I don't think i've actually used the base to charge anything as yet.
edit: Note you do need a magsafe compatible case for it to stick to it properly

    • -2

or you can stick a magnet plate on the back of your phone case.

      • Wasn't too sure about doing that since it could add some inefficiencies or heat issues? dunno. i haven't researched it. I'll just stick to supported cases since the phone costs so damn much

        • ESR sell a double pack for $13 on Amazon.
I bought one but also bought a $27 iPhone 13 Pro case and haven’t looked back. (It charges better and even runs faster as it doesn’t overheat)

      • you cant use a plate, it has to be a ring. a plate would interfere with the induction and the charger would not start.

  • Does this work with iphone 14 pro max?

    • It should, as mentioned slower…. I’d look on Amazon for alternatives with more oomph

      • +3

IMO you want a slower charger for cradles like this. I leave mine on the charger on my desk all day and its fine.

fast charging, especially via wireless charging, introduces a lot of heat, which can shorten the battery's life. wireless charging is also less efficient than plug in for the energy conscious.

I use a 5w charger at night (plug in) a 7.5w wireless cradle charger during the day, and a 30w plug in for if/when I need to quickly charge my phone before i head out.

        • Good points! Ill cop one. Been trying to find a decent one thats not too expensive

  • Can the base be used to charge an apple watch?

    • +2

Nope. The Apple Watch wireless charging is not standard qi wireless. You can however charge AirPods or other devices which uses qi aka almost all other mobile devices with wireless charging.

  • Awesome, this will sit nicely on my desk for work.

  • or charging overnight.

Is there a proper way to turn off the iphone's "end of charge" sound, that doesn't also turn off the phone's ringer?

I don't want to be woken by the "end of charge" sound, but I do want to be woken by emergency calls from family members.

    • +1

I have never heard an iPhone make an end of charge noise in 13 years of using them…

      • My mistake, it's not an end-of-charge sound, it's a start-of-charge sound. I found that leaving my wife's iphone on a wireless charger would chime periodically. Probably it's reaching full charge, stopping charging, and then re-starting (with a sound) when it drops to 99%.

        https://www.zdnet.com/article/why-does-my-iphone-buzz-or-chi…

        • It could be disconnecting - reconnecting ? Could there possibly be interference like a incompatible case?

          • @ozchobie:

            like a incompatible case?

Iphone still does it when the case is removed. Do you charge wirelessly?

This problem has been around for years, here's a post from 2012 by someone with the exact same problem:

            https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3868262

All the answers I can find say "use the mute switch" or "plug in headphones", but that means you won't hear alarms and incoming calls, and may forget to un-mute in the morning. I have also seen a post saying "open the camera app and leave it open", but that's an ugly solution.

"Do not disturb" mode doesn't turn off the charging chime either, and I can't find a way to change it to a different sound (e.g. a recording of silence), or turn it off completely.

Is it possibly something that doesn't happen with a genuine apple wireless charger? I'm using QI chargers that I have.

            • +1

@Russ: Yes I only charge exclusively via wireless on my iPhone and never had these issues. I have these as I mentioned above and I use the Belkin, Samsung and cheaper qi wireless chargers and never had the issue.

That is indeed an odd thing. The only time it does the sound on mine regardless of which wireless charger I use is during the beginning of the charge confirming the connection.

If you haven’t used magnetic charging with your MagSafe compatible iPhone then this could isolate the issue of it not having a secure connection as it snaps the phone securely into place.

              • @ozchobie: It's an older iphone, iphone 8 I think, so perhaps that's part of the problem.

I do want to be woken by emergency calls from family members

Wait, so you're not currently using Focus/Sleep mode at night, so you can be woken at 2am by scammers robocalling from Nigeria? That's no way to live.

You can designate notifications/calls from your family members to be delivered in Focus mode:
      https://support.apple.com/en-bw/guide/iphone/iph21d43af5b/io…

      • I didn't know that existed, but it won't work anyway. Apple made the charging chime NOT be a notification, so it can't be silenced like that.

We've never had any spam calls during sleeping hours, and I've been sleeping beside my mobile since 1993. I have had calls like "Dad, I'm calling on a friend's phone, my phone has gone flat, can you come and pick me up from the party?", so focus/sleep mode isn't something I'm willing to use.

  • Any good black/dark colour alternatives that are in this price point that anyone would recommend?

    • Not that i can find. Theyre closer to the 100 dollar mark. Theres a generic $30 one on Amazon but it has bad reviews.

  • Does this charger require a magsafe case?

    • +2

Yes, without any case at all, or with a magsafe case on, for iphones 12 and up on the main charger,

I got mine today, nice build quality, strong magnet which easily holds 14 promax. Charge speed is pretty slow but it will suffice for putting down after work or while using PC. Overall I am happy with this purchase.
