Note release date of 31/12/2023

As pointed out by Trosticles, JB have an exclusive 'Pin Badge Deluxe Edition' for the same price. You would need to pay upfront to preorder from JB, but you get some pins included.

On Amazon, the Deluxe Edition was previously listed for $99. If you've already preordered you will get the lowest price. No need to pay until they're ready to ship and can cancel any time before then. It is a LONG way off.

The Hogwarts Legacy Deluxe Edition Includes: Thestral Mount, Dark Arts Battle Arena, Dark Arts Cosmetic Set

I've just preordered both and I'll check it out closer to the release date to see if I want either or both.

What is this game?

Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world action RPG set in the world rst(sic) introduced in the Harry Potter books. Embark on a journey through familiar and new locations as you explore and discover magical beasts, customize your character and craft potions, master spell casting, upgrade talents and become the wizard you want to be. Experience Hogwarts in the 1800s. Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart. Make allies, battle Dark wizards, and ultimately decide the fate of the wizarding world. Your legacy is what you make of it. Live the Unwritten.

There seems to be an 'Onyx Hippogriff Mount' that you get if you preorder, physical or digital copy, it may or may not include if you order the standard edition. If you don't get this I believe you get a normal hippogriff mount anyway. Should get it with the Deluxe Edition.

Standard edition is $78 on Amazon, which is pretty standard. Just select it from the deal link. Is it worth an extra $11 for deluxe? No idea.

There's a collectors edition which may not be available to preorder yet for Switch that will likely be around $500.

They're price matching JB, so you can order there as well (see Badge Pin version above for the same price). They have a similar price promise where they will refund if the price goes down, but that's a long time to tie up your money.

    Note release date of 31/12/2023

No ones pre-ordering a game 14 months out are they?

    • Might as well, I'm kind of hoping for some kind of pricing error price match that will result in it being even cheaper (probably unlikely). If it doesn't look good around the release date I'll just cancel, Amazon don't charge anything until it ships. I've got it set to come off a card with no money anyway.

That's a placeholder date. It's supposed to release on the 11th of February for other platforms, so depending on how well they can optimise it for the Switch they may release it earlier in the year.

    gonna run @15 fps lol

    • might be faster to borrow the books from the library and return them.

  • +11

how are they gonna get this to run? the switch is a school calculator

      Lemvardia Liveagoslow

    • Having programmed minesweeper and other games for my casio, I can assure you it's not :p

      • Do U mean it runs worse than a school calculator? Seems legit.

    • unoptimized?

80% cut scenes. 19% character selection screen. 1% gameplay. :P

Will certainly be interesting to see just how lowered everything is to get it running at a reasonable frame rate.

  • Waiting for 14.5 months?
I would rather wait for price discounting by December 2023.

If Amazon drops the price (and they do price match several stores) you get the lowest price anyway. If they don’t match you can just cancel and order elsewhere, it doesn’t cost anything until it ships.

  • Wth this is coming to Switch? Gonna be very interesting to see how it performs haha.

For those questioning how it will run, it will really depend on the developers. No Man's Sky seems to have surprised a lot of people. I don't play on any other consoles and after working on a computer all day I don't feel like playing games on it. I won't be getting it on any other platform. If they manage to do it well on Switch I'll go ahead with the preorder, otherwise I'll cancel.

    • or those questioning how it will run, it will really depend on the developers. No Man's Sky seems to have surprised a lot of people.

      This 💯

    • Hello Games are too good.
Although there are some games on Switch that have been optimised surprisingly well there are others that just end up using cloud streaming to not have to bother optimising the game at all.

    • Unfortunately you can't really tell how it performs until its release but by then it is too late to cancel.

      • I was pretty confident with No Man's Sky after watching a pre-release review, are they not normal? It was only official footage, but together with the reviewer having played it just gave me the confidence to go ahead with the preorder. I must admit it's only these two games and the Zelda one coming out next year that I've been interested in getting on release.

I guess if there’s not it's a good indication it's worth waiting a bit. I have set it up with a card that doesn't have money on it, so I can take a few days after release to decide still, just means I'll get it a bit late, which is probably not a huge deal.

Dec 2023 is like being on Kickstarter and pledging for board games LOL

    • Kickstarter takes your money before the items ship though.

  • No Quidditch, No play.

  • The first time in a long time I'm seeing a AAA 3rd party title releasing on the Switch alongside next-gen consoles.

Fingers crossed they actually deliver and don't cancel the port like they did with so many other games.

No way I'm paying $89 for this game.

It'll drop not long after launch.

  • I didn’t realise the switch release date was so much after the ps5.

Might be the push I need to get a ps5.

Surely the other JB Hi-Fi exclusice listing is better, if you want the pins?

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/nintendo-switch-hogwarts-…

Haven't compared the price promises. Weird that the JB description suggests a release date in Feb 2023:

Hogwarts Legacy Deluxe Pin Edition includes:

*JB Exclusive Hogwarts Legacy Pin Badges
*72 hours Early Access to the game starting February 7, 2023
*The Dark Arts Pack - provides access to an exclusive wardrobe via the Dark Arts Cosmetic Set, a flying Thestral Mount players can ride, and access to the Dark Arts BattleArena where players can test their mastery of the Dark Arts against waves of challenging enemies.

    • I hadn't seen it, I think the difference with the price promise is you pay upfront at JB and they refund the difference after release if it goes cheaper. With Amazon you just pay the lower price when they ship. The date was probably just a copy paste from one of the other platforms, as they will all be released in Feb.

If preordering at JB might as well get the pin badge version, but I don't really want to put any money down on it yet. When it gets closer to release I might consider changing to JB if it looks quite promising to get that version, assuming it's the same price.
