  • For a similar price range you can get the ecovacs n8+

    https://www.ecovacs.com/au/deebot-robotic-vacuum-cleaner/n8-…

Wondering which is a better option?

    • This is self emptying, different league but same price range

      • +2

Where doess it say its self emptying? All it comes with is a charging base?
Or did you mean its compatible with a self emptying station?

        • +1

Sorry, I meant the n8+ with self-emptying station

      • +1

Deebot empty stations simply don't work. If you have any particles of hair it will never empty shit.
It's also a task that you can do yourself in 5 seconds. Save the $300 it usually costs for a large thing that doesn't do anything.

I've owned this vacuum for the last few months as a warranty replacement of another Eufy robovac. Feel free to AMA about it if you want info.

    • +9

I'll ask the obvious one, is it any good?

      • +1

Depends what criteria you're using to define good.
Is it better than the RoboVac L70 Hybrid it replaced? Absolutely. Outside of that I haven't had any hands on experience with other robot vacuums to compare it with.

Edit to add: In my opinion, its strengths are suction strength and battery life. Mop function is virtually useless. More features available on other models, but at cost of suction strength from what I've seen.

    • How does this compare to other robovacs in its price category (~$699). Looking to get one for a small 2Br apartment, low pile carpet with tiled kitchen.

      • +3

Same as my other comment - if your choice is between a RoboVac L70 Hybrid and this one - I'd choose this. I can't honestly compare it with anything else due to lack of experience.

We use ours daily on the bottom level of our home which includes large living room, kitchen, dining, home office and rumpus room. It does a pretty good job; however the dustbin is usually full with dog hair long before it's finished - and there's no way to know when it's full besides manually checking.

    • Is it better than the one it replaced?

    • Also, this has multi room mapping so you can send this bot to a particular room to clean. L70 only did whole house or spot cleaning which you had to manually set each time.
Seems more of a software feature they lock out if you have particular models. Anything that maps could technically then segment that map in software.
We just had a warranty replacement from an L70 at JB as well.

      • Yep, also has multi level mapping - which was a godsend for us in our split level house.

  • This review seems to think it's pretty average. Ok at this price perhaps? https://www.techradar.com/reviews/eufy-robovac-x8

  • we have a light curtain across a doorway to keep draft out: is there a way to program the robot to push through it instead of avoiding it like a wall?

    • No

      • argg… :( thanks for the info though.

    • Wow that looks like a lot of parts to clean! Are other bots similar?

      • +1

Yeah, the Mrs has a Roborock and it's very similar.

  • How about Roborock S7? Anyone used before?

    • Waiting for roborock s7 deal. So far, it’s reviews has been great. Much better cleaning and mopping than others. A friend is using it and pretty happy

    • +2

I've had the Roborock S7 since Christmas and highly recommend. I haven't tried Eufy to be fair but the S7 is incredibly good, does a fantastic job vacuuming and mopping and very easy to set up. I have two cats and it keeps the house clean.

      • What did you get it for?

It's on Amazon for $899 at the moment but can't tell if that's regular pricing.

        • I think it was $1150 at the time, in Dec 21

  • Bought a Roidmi Eve Plus for $550, comes with a self emptying dock and runs rings around anything else in the price range.

    • Do you have shedding pets at all? Looking to get something primarily to clean up pet hair - if so is it any good?

      • I Don't, but the reviews indicate it performs pretty well.

  • Roborock S5max or S7 series.

  • So many codes, looks like no one wants to spend their $$ on this. Is roborock a better brand? Or stick to stick vacuums?

  • I pulled the trigger and bought one of these yesterday. Really happy, its navigated our house pretty well (3 bedroom) and picked up a fair bit of dirt and dog hair. App seems friendly enough.

    • Do you still see visible bits of dust and dirt on the floor once it's done? Do you feel the need to go over it with a regular vacuum?

      • Not that I’ve noticed. I had an old Dyson DC35 and it seems to be similar to that, if anything a bit better especially because of the mopping.
I’ve got two toddlers and a dog, so the ability to be able to have it do runs of the house when we’re out or the kids are asleep is great.
Only downside, inherent to robot ones, are that it can’t get into some tight spaces.

        • Good points, thanks for that. I like the idea of clean floors with zero effort but I'm hesitant to get one of these robot vacuums as I'm aware they don't work as good as a (new) cordless vacuum and also they require regular maintenance. Do you spend much time every week cleaning yours?

  • How's everyone going with their new robot vacuum… given it a name yet? 😁 Ours took a few days to set up and map properly once we figured out no-go zones and keeping stuff off the floor etc., but floors have never been cleaner!!

Does anyone know what pressing down on the lidar sensor part does? The big, sticky out bit on the top.
