Apple Watch SE - Battery Drain

I bought an Apple Watch SE (41mm) for my pre teen kid last year and a few months ago activated the true phone plan on it. Ever since the activation, the battery life on the watch has been just shocking. We take it off charge at 8.00 am and it completely drains out by 3.00 pm.

I've stopped the background refresh, made the screen black and white, no animated wallpapers, deleted some apps that are not needed and tried a factory reset.

Keen to know if others are having similar experiences?

If it doesn't last a day, its a useless piece of tech.

What does Apple say about it?

    • Havent had a chance to take it to them. I was hoping the brains trust here could help.

One of the biggest battery drains - poor mobile reception. Try to put your watch into Airplane mode (swipe from the bottom) and see if there will be any difference. If not - book an appointment with the Apple.

    • That is a good idea. I might do that.

  • I have to charge mine daily - usually do it before I go to sleep and it will last a full next day. If I use it to answer calls and use my AirPods for walking 45mins to an hour, it will sometimes get to 40% end of day. If you leave some apps on in the background and don't realise it it will flatten battery in less than 24 hours. My fitbit 2 would last 3-5 days for similar usage. I put up with poor battery for some of the easy way it syncs without having to find where I've left my phone.
Also try a reset-this sometimes fixes problems.

Did a reset and put in black and white mode. Seems to have helped a bit.

I put the same post on a fb group for apple watches. Seems like most people experience the same issues with a standalone watch. Seems to fair better when paired with a phone….even if you have a shared cellular connection with it.

It’s a shame cause I bought it with the sole idea of keeping the phone away as long as possible. Essentially a connectivity device without the need for a phone. But it doesnt seem to work that ways.

  • Truphone uses Vodafone so most likely bad coverage

  • the OG SE? I've got the LTE model, with just over 80% battery life left, and it still makes a day no worries. I use it pretty heavily to check notifications and stuff. I don't have cellular on it though (never used it, wasnt worth the cost). But its connected to my phone all day, used to skip songs and stuff all the time. I'd check the battery health, if its still above 80% give it a factory reset. Suspect you've got an app smashing it.
