One of the best gaming headset. I own the PS version one and use it for PS5 and PC, it sounds great for story game or multiplayer game like COD.

    Where’s the bargain.

8-9 years later, and I'm still using my Gen1 A50s.
Genuinely a great set of very comfy headphones. If they ever broke I'd probably replace them with a new set of A50s without a second thought.

    • Mine died and I could never work out what the issue was, a bloody shame cos they were excellent.

ive been through many gaming headsets and ill honestly buy these again when i need to i picked mine up from marketplace a few years ago near new for $100 still going strong today

Im still using my Astro A40s from back when Halo 3 was biggest console shooter. I dont use the wireless setup any more (no optical out on the series X) I just plug in to one of those xbox one era headset adapters with the volume controls on it on the controller.

considering that setup cost me over $500 (couldnt buy them locally, had to import from the US) I feel like I've got my moneys worth, but I wont be upgrading until my A40s are dead or controllers stop being compatible with the adapter. I just replaced the ear cushions with some memory foam ones, so its got a long life left.

Which is to say, Astro gear is quality and should last you forever if you buy these.

My friend had a pair of A50s that died after around ten years and he went out and bought a new pair that day. I bought one four years ago on his recommendation and they're still going strong which is four times longer than any of the high-end Logitechs I've bought. Great sound, light, very comfortable.

    • Mine have been going strong since 2015. Longest surviving headset/headphones I've had so far, especially after daily use.

don't bother with the expensive Astro A40/A50 when you can have this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/729868 for $89

I have both the A40 and the G4ME Zero, at this price you should not even think about the Astro

    • This headset is wireless buddy.

      • fair enough… still not sure how much better or worth it when playing on console since the (wireless) controller is literally at an arms length from your head :D

a matter of preference and pocket depth, I guess

        • Headsets plugged into the controller sound like garbage compared to ones with a specialised receiver. It's not even comparable.

  • Do you need the HDMI adapter to use these with PS5?

    • You still able to use this on PS5 via USB cable, for me it still sounds OK for Story Game, Racing and Call of Duty.
If you want to customize the sound profile, you need to use HDMI to Optical Adapter and it only support 4K60.

Optical directly to the TV works too.

From review, it's not really compatible for PS5, you need buy a separate HDMI adapter and that adapter is HDMI 2.0 which is 4k60 only.

    • Hard to settle on a good headset for PS5 really. I've been doing the research the past few weeks and settled on the Hyperx cloud Alpha wireless headset, but it arrived yesterday and the max volume on PS5 wasn't very loud at all and friends said that the mic sounded like rubbish and nowhere near as good as the dusty old PS3 era PlayStation Gold headset that I currently use. Starting to think it might be worth just sticking with the Gold's.

      • The new Sony ones are meant to be very goos, but expensive.

        • I was looking into those, but I kept seeing people saying that the microphone quality on those is also pretty bad. Seems like nobody cares to put a decent microphone on a headset these days.

  • I bought a set of these from a Black Friday deal in 2019. I use them for extended periods most days because I WFH and they are super comfy, even while wearing glasses. The sound quality is pretty awesome and I love the fact they have a charging dock. I had to get my first set replaced after ~9months which was a massive hassle during the brunt of COVID, but they eventually came through with the goods. Since then, I had an issue where they refused to turn on and getting any form of support was terrible, but I managed to drain the battery and they eventually started charging again. I don't think I'd ever pay more than this price for them and there may be better alternatives, but they defintely aren't shit :) I use them exclusively on PC

    • Wonder if it will come back to black Friday this year… How much did you pay back then if you don't mind me asking

  • If I was to only use for PC, is there a benefit to either the PS for Xbox versions?
