$300 Trade-in Bonus (on Top of Old Device Value) for Buying Google Pixel 7 Pro @ Telstra

212

Walked into a Telstra store yesterday to find out what mmWave is like in my area and I think I've convinced myself to buy a new phone for the first time in years…
(first post please be gentle)

Telstra is offering $300 bonus trade in credit (on top of phone value) if you're picking up the Pixel 7 Pro (only mmwave device at Telstra)

i.e. could trade in my wife's iPhone 13 Pro for $800 + $300 bonus = $1100 = $199 for P7 Pro

More likely I'll find 2 XL I've got in a draw somewhere - only worth $25 but + $300 = $325 is a pretty solid discount on an already good value 7 Pro.

The promotions tab on Telstra's website at https://www.telstra.com.au/trade-in#promotions seems to be broken so can't get any more info online, but the salesperson said it's Australia wide at all Telstras.

EDIT: Potentially better value than the JB equivalent deal if you've got an older phone - Telstra's trade in value is more generous and JB's deal doesn't apply if your phone is worth $0. i.e. Pixel 2 XL trade in $0 @ JB means no trade in bonus, same phone worth $25 @ Telstra so $300 does apply

The Telstra trade-in program is operated by Kingfisher Mobile Australia Limited.

Check out the JB Hi-fi deal here: JB Hi-fi Trade In, Pre-order Bonus

$300 voucher (on top of your phone trade in value) and double dip on the pre-order bonus (extra Nest, Chromecast and $100 JB voucher).

    • +1

Trade in value for a Pixel 2 XL @ JB is $0 so $300 bonus won't apply, I checked with the JB in the same centre

    • Is the double dip legit?

Can someone actually confirm it works?

      I'd go in today

      • +4

        Not sure why it wouldn't.
One is a bonus for preordering and the other for trading in your old phone. Not really double dipping.

      • +2

Legit. I did it yesterday. Make sure you have your coupon barcode emailed to you for the $300 trade in and then mention the pre-order deal as well.

They printed off coupons to redeem the Chromecast and Nest Hub and also activated a gave me the $100 gift card on the spot.

  • +2

Hm, my S20 FE 5G is worth up to $275 on Telstra, but only $200 on JB trade in.

    • This.
Always compares trade values before jumping onto the JB deal. I've noticed JB to be very stingy.

    • JB deal is better value though since you get a $100 gift card, Chromecast and nest hub.

      • Must be close though - $300 bonus from Telstra means you need to value a Nest hub ($90-$120) and Chromecast ($60-100) at more than $200? I have enough of those currently so Telstra may be better bet

        • That is on top of the $300 extra trade in value.

          • +1

@Jamiea: Ah, you're right. So Telstra is only better if they give you at least $100 better price for your phone than JB, and more depending or more if you see the Chromecast and Nest Hub as having value

    • Better ask your beloved Gerry for generosity! But I would not trade the ip13pro as it is still current.

Looks like more deals on 7 Pro than for the 7. Personally I felt the Pixel 7 is a good sized phone compared to 7 Pro which is YUGGE. Mind you, I am coming from a really nice Pixel 5 (the best pixel ever)

  • Any trade in bonus for Pixel 7 (non pro)?

  • +6

    FYI

    Receive your credit
If your device is accepted for trade-in, we'll apply your credit to your bill within two billing cycles, or onto your bank account or credit or debit card for your AutoPay arrangement with us within 30 days, if you’re on one of our upfront mobile or data plans.

So you won't get the credit off the new handset price upfront?

some people don't want an iOS device

    • +4

Purely subjective which phone is better.

    • +2

Well depends on what your version of "better" is… If you want IOS then sure ITrendy anything is better. But if you want the customization that comes with Android then ITrendy isn't the better. If your after photography benefits such as computational photography then the P7P will be 'better'. If you want 'hold for me' that can save you hours on hold and exquisite 'call screening' then ITrendy is a no go. Hold for me and call screening is a-m-a-z-i-n-g on the Pixel and not available on anything else (in fact I don't think anything on the market is close to Pixel for these features)… Just with those features alone the Pixel range rocks my boat above anything IPhone can offer. Then the astrophotography is super impressive and way better than anything i've seen on the Iphone (note we run Pixels and Iphones in my house). I could crack on about a range of other features; but for me the time saving (aka frustration cutting) call features are unsurpassed by anything else in the market. IPhones just don't cut it in my mind.

iPhone 13 Pro is a better phone

      definitely.

    • +2

It really struggles to run iOS apps, you know?

  • anyone know if they'll accept a pixel 2 XL with a slight cracked screen?

    • +2

Never mind, damaged value is $0 but still accepted.

  • Can I trade in a two-year old phone with smashed (but working) screen?
Cracked screen comes under "Damaged" but my screen has multiple cracks (top quarter of screen very obscured).

    EDIT
Oh Telstra only seem to Trade-in a few brands anyway.

  • +3

Need to have a post-paid service with Telstra to be eligible? Might rule out a lot of people if that’s the case.

    • Yep, I got to that part as well and had to move onto another deal…

  • Anyone know if demo units are now out in the wild? Curious about actual camera performance and would love to test the telephoto in video mode.

    • Search on YouTube. Several high profile reviewers doing their thing on the P7's now.

    • +1

I went to a Telstra shop yesterday. They had two units on display that you can play with

  • -6

Battery performance on the pixel 7 pro is horrible apparently with anywhere from 3-6 hours of screen on time. I would skip and wait for s23 line.

It's getting really hard to get a decent android phone with a good software and hardware combo. Might as well just switch to an iPhone.

  • Can only claim with a postpaid mobile? Disappointing because I have a postpaid internet plan with them.

  • -1

The thing is just a scam. If your phone is slight damage they will not take it or offer you $25

They basically want you to trade in a perfectly good phone which you can get 3x more on ebay for peanuts.

Edit: Link to estimates - https://www.telstra.com.au/trade-in#estimate

A smartphone that is damaged is one that powers on and off as intended, but may have minor functional issues, include physical damage such as minor scratches, cracked screens, or dents, or other items as reasonably determined our trade-in partner, Kingfisher

    • But if they don't take it, will you still get the trade in bonus?

  • +2

if you go with Vodafone, they offer $400 bonus + trade in value for Google Pixel 7 Pro.

    • Must go on a plan with that offer.

  • Looks like Galaxy Flip 3 5G 256GB is maxing-out at $450 base trade-in value (before any bonuses). Anyone spotted a better trade deal than JB by chance?

I'm looking forward to returning to the land of Pixel.

  • $100 more for a Pixel 6 compared to JB

  • I've ordered a Pixel 7 Pro from Google, yet to arrive. Shall I cancel the order and order from JB Hifi ?

  • +1

I saw an ad on insta for this $300 trade-in bonus

$300 bonus credit when you trade in any mobile phone, in any condition.

I reckon you can get any old phone, even if it doesn't turn on, or have any trade-in value to get the $300.

The Pixel 7 Pro product page also has the same deal.

  • Does anyone know how the trade-in bonus gets applied? Does it get spread over the entire plan, or just used up every month until it's gone, or can you get it credited straight to a bank account?

    • If your device is accepted for trade-in, we'll apply your credit to your bill within two billing cycles, or onto your bank account or credit or debit card for your AutoPay arrangement with us within 30 days, if you’re on one of our upfront mobile or data plans

  • Bugger, I wish you didn't have to send your device first to Kingfisher as I don't have another phone handy.

    • You get 10 days to send in it

  • Yeah it says any phone in any condition… also since I dont have a telstra number on my account I cant use the trade in feature?

  • +1

I walked into westfield airport west t store, asked about this. Can't buy outright without moving onto a (minimum 12mth) plan, no port in credit.
    No deal.

  • Has anyone actually done this deal? It seems confusing to me. I might just go with JB even though I lose out on $75, because their process is so easy
It's impossible to call a telstra store or speak to anyone, so I might ask them in store before going to JB. But I'm pretty sure you have to pay the full price for Pixel 7 Pro, then receive the trade in credit later.

  • +1

Anyone else getting at This page isn't working at the moment error on the trade in website?

  • Working for me.

  • I went to the Telstra store at Haymarket, this deal is only for postpaid plans.

  • Has anyone bought this outright from the store? Do they require ID check and all that jazz?

  • Any idea how long the credit takes to be applied?

  • Do they send a satchel or do you have to go and get some e-mail confirmation with labels and then go to AusPost?

  • Anyone know if you can use Telstra Plus points to purchase the Pixel 7 Pro and then claim the bonus when you trade in your old phone?

  • +1

Anyone getting an error when trying to submit the trade-in request?

    • Yep, been trying for a week now.

Telstra told me to try another browser on another device.. so I went into the Telstra store and used their PC… Still getting the same error.

Error Message: Catalog Item not found by SKU: 100114834GE

Phone for trade in is Pixel 2 XL

      • Same device as me.

        So no luck in-store?

        • Nup.. currently waiting on response from 'subject matter expert'

          • @chribro: I think its some issue to do with the Pixel 2 XL. Tried an iPhone 5 and it had no issues

            • @lolcoaster: I had the same error. I spammed it a few times one my last attempt didn't really care what I clicked just kept doing next next next and it went through. Then messaged support saying it had a bug and maybe I submitted wrongly. Worse case it's $0 instead of $25 lol.

              • @melon92: Did you get an email confirming your tradein? I have a refence number but no emails.

                • @lolcoaster: Yeah, took about a day. So submitted 31st around 7pm aest and came through yesterday close to 24 hours apart.

Only part im worried about is they can return your phone apparently if its not as described…..which is stupid because the promo was any phone in any condition provided it fits the eligible phone list they had. It said $25 for my p2xl but i know it has a cracked screen and they offered me $0 which i was fine with but the bug prevented me going through. We shall see.
