Multiple Credit Card Applications

Hey guys,

How realistic or practical is applying for 2 credit cards at the same time (a week apart)? The reason, just wanted to utilize the sign-up bonus for a big purchase. All 3 credit rating agencies have given me an excellent rating. Already have 2 credit cards for the past 3-4 years with all payments made on time.

  • shouldn't be a problem as long as ur credit limit is like $40k on each.

    • nah, both combined is 10k.

Shouldn't be a problem at all, but you should recuce the other two's credit to minimum to be safe. i got 3 cards of which credits were reduced to minimum. Then I applied for another 3 at the same time and got approved. I also applied for minimum credits for the new 3. I got excellent credit rating.

    • That's a good idea, never occurred to me. Thanks for the tip. Just curios, were the 3 cards from different banks?

Would I be able to get the 2 cards (Citi Premier & Citi Clear) from the same bank? Citi live chat mentioned I can apply for 2 cards but wanted to know if anyone had been successful with it.

  • My 3 new cards were from 3 different banks, but 2 of them were actually processed together (Citi and Virgin Money).

Shouldn't be a problem but I got knocked back for both cards (even though I got good credit) because I applied for two cards the same night. One bank told me if I signed up to another card at the same time, I said yes and she said: "ah, yes sometimes the system thinks you're doing something sus and knocked you back". She said I need to apply after X amount of months I think.

    • ah damn. I put in application for 2 cards with Citi, one yesterday night and one this morning. Fingers crossed

  • I have regularly applied for 2 at exactly the same time and just not told the other bank im applying for 2 at a time
