  • is it possible to get this without a membership card, heard maybe gift cards work the same to get entry into costco and also buy stuff

    • -1

      Yes you can do that

    • -3

No membership is must. But if you have a friend or relative who is a member can buy for you

      • +1

In America, they just use gift cards to enter and buy stuff, no need for membership, was hoping it'd be the same in Australia

        • +10

Yes - you can shop with a gift card - no membership required. Confirmed this for a friend last week and also got him a gift card.

          • @Dealking: but you need someone with membership to buy the shop/giftcard
            ??

            • @capslock janitor: Yes - don’t think they sell gift cards where they sell memberships to non-members.

          • +1

@Dealking: Thanks, just need to find a way to get a gift card, thought there would be some people selling it on gumtree

        • +1

Yeah I used to do that all the time over there. Had a membership once, and even though it expired, it still let me log in and buy Costco gift cards….. Only negative was cashier had to call over a team leader to swipe a card and start the transaction.

    • If you know a member, they can buy you a gift card which will let you shop. Ive heard that some costco's dont let you purchase over your gift card amount YMMV

      • Ive heard that some costco's dont let you purchase over your gift card amount

That would be a crazy stupid policy.

        • +1

They don't want people to game out of paying the $60 Costco membership by asking someone to get gift cards all the time (can totally see that as an Ozbargain 'hack'). Guess that makes it fair for the paying members. Maybe a few dollars over is fine, but having a $50 gc with a $2k cart is probly taking the piss lol

          • @MeesusEff: I think someone would be pretty brazen trying that with $5 left on the gift card.

            Hopefully clearly stated somewhere.

ETA. Seems you can cashout if the balance is less than $10.

          • @MeesusEff: Sir, this is Australia, it's our job to take the piss out of Americans.

          • @MeesusEff: If we can do that then yeah i would definitely get a $5 GC just to spend $2k but feel like if it's not food then best to get membership for the unlimited warranty

            • @michael9865: Do they still do that? I thought they changed it after people just returning stuff after 10 years lol

              • +1

@MeesusEff: they just changed it for electronics, so can still return sofas and so on after 100 years

                • @michael9865: Do you know what the warranty period is for electronics, is it the standard 2 year etc. Looking to get the electric car for my kid but I know they don't last very long lol

                  • @MeesusEff: No idea, each company has their own warranty so have to research it.
But if you get it from costco and dont like it you can return it after using it but as it is electronic good have to return used goods before 90 day period

    • If you're in Melbourne, you can purchase directly from these locations:

      https://www.sweetindia.com.au/pages/store-locations

      No membership required

      • Same price?

You can get them lots of places but it is usually around $30/kg or above

        • +1

I think its $23/kg. By going to the wholeseller, you'll get a fresher product and you can pick exactly what you're after rather then buy a pre-packed product.

  • +1

Is this available at all Costco stores? Which is your store OP?

    • +2

Can confirm it is .just bought from some bundamba in QLD but it’s throughout Australia

      • Thanks for letting me know.

        • +2

saw this in docklands too, but expiry date is 18 n 26th Oct.

  • Adelaide

    • Does it taste good and Authentic?

  • Saw this at Casula Crossroads too.

  • How do these compare to paklavas

    • +2

Paklava is I believe made from flour, sugar syrup, dry fruit garnish and stuff.
These are mostly milk sweet made from milk and milk powder with loads of sugar(lol).
We do have sweets closer to paklavas in India but not these ones.

    • is that like baklava

      • No but same crazy sweet like baklava. In this box basically 3 varieties Milk base dessertsWhen you keep stirring and boiling slow temperature left milk curd use for sweet with a lot sugar. Another nut base like cashew meal powered with sugar syrup and rose water. And 3rd one made from flour and sugar.

        • now ure making me hunggyy nd its almost midnite

    • Chalk and cheese..different cultures..both too sweet ..but unless you try them you wouldnt know whether you like them or hate them.. this a pretty cheap price..though a kilo maybe a bit much to try ..depending on where you live Indian and sweets and Baklava both are widely availabl in smaller quantities

I saw this at North Lakes yesterday on one of the ends of the rows where the keep all the curries, cheese and all that. Near the demo section?

  • -4

    Full of preservatives.

    • +5

      And sugar and saturated fats

    • +4

Going by their best before dates, may be not preservatives but lots of sugar, calories and saturated fats.

    • +4

      Lame joke.

  • +7

It's $25 per KG at all specialised shops.

Final price may be good but $40 is a rip
    off.

    • I agree you can get the sweets form 25$, but are they made of pure ghee??
      Thats the difference.

  • +1

Are these overly sweet? Would like to try but most Indian sweets i've had were very sweet

    • +10

Unfortunately, these are too sweet. I being an Indian find it very sweet and that's the common theme here with indian sweets made in Australia. All good chefs are in India, here, these are all phoney shops with less skilled workers.
No taste, just sugar and rose syrup. Lol

      • yeah i thought it might be. would like to try the proper ones but i cant deal with the sugar hit hahah, thanks!

        • +1

Me neither, I had few from this pack yesterday and had to run 30 mins this morning( mostly out of guilt)

          • +1

@mannyTheMemmoth: Damn. Oh dear. Those 30 mins would have burned half the amount of calories in just one? 😭😭

      • +2

The quality of ingredients is so much better here and therefore they taste better than some big name shops back home. But yes too sweet and I am over them too.

      • I doubt whether you actually had the sweets from this shop, As a person who tasted their sweets, I feel their quality and taste is a step above rest of the shops,

If you go to their shop you can find people lining up, to get their products.
I aggree their rasmalai is not up to the mark.

      • +1

I'm not an Indian but bought this box a few days ago (paid $25). They are quite unusual for my background, but I like them. To my taste, they have a very subtle sweetness, except Ice cream Barfi (which reminds me fudge). Btw, I didn't notice the rose syrup at all.

        • +1

Yes, not in these ones, in general.

    • have it w tea

  • +1

    Sweet deal! :) Thanks OP.

  • Are these guys same www.sweetindia.com.au

    • Yes.

  • +2

Don't buy it, because I did, very low-quality sweets, with low-quality butter/ghee and sweetness, feel artificial. If you are into Indian sweets like me go to a local Indian grocery shop and buy fresh ones. It is not even worth 20

    • But there are 51+ upvotes…

      • but there's 6 different TYPES of sweets ..

    • +1

I've tried them from Hoppers shop for many years now and they are good. Never tried Costco, you reckon different quality or different factory?

      • Bought them tried them, and they are meh
        100% not the same taste
And they have Gelatine (ice cream burfi) , bit wrong considering some of these sweets will be use for offerings/prayers for Diwali, timing is just wrong, and the some people won't even check

    • I was going to make same comment. You need to get this stuff from a proper indian sweet shop or restaurant. The stuff from supermarkets is shite, always dry laddoos and boring barfis. Barely even the same food

      • Sweet India is made in Melbourne and of good quality unlike frozen that are imported.

    • -2

ah that's why they on special price, hard pass, thanks for letting us know
I saw a video years back how they made milk sweets from washing powder
well the one at costco gets full credit for the look though real effort lookalike real ha ha ha

People in Melbourne, try Pista House if you are looking for Indian sweets

    https://pista-house.com.au/

Whole fam loves Indian sweet stuff especially the donut balls in the sugar syrup one, is it included in this deal OP?

Couldn't tell if it's included or not as I don't understand those names OP mentioned lol.

  • Bought these yesterday from Marsden Park NSW and they are were gone quickly. People were buying heaps as cheapest 1kg of mixed indian sweet is about $29-30 (from not so good shops) and for $20 it was cheap and good. Unfortunately there was no tasteing as if I buy from Indian store you get to taste as well. Also, Good to witness that everyone was buying not just indians (as many would presume).

  • The deal says expired, but it is still at that price today

    • $40 at my local Costco.

  • Is it still this price this week, unsure when costco week starts

  • It this deal still available in Ipswich?

  • Sweets were $20 per kg in Punjab Sweets Dandenong yesterday

  • So i bought 2 packs today, gave one to a friend. Me and my family ate the other. Halfway through the box, found mould on one piece so immediately stopped eating it. The question is how do i return a half eaten pack and will they accept it? 🤔

    • +1

Yeah they do. One time I bought squid jerky but my husband got sick after eating it so I returned it.
