Recommend me an A/V receiver

Need something that has 3x 4k input to 1x output. Will be driving Wharfedale Diamond 9s 5.1 setup and a LG 75" um6900.

Foxtel and Plex streaming are main watch sources so would like something that has good range of audio support. Would prefer to spend less then more šŸ˜currently using a Pioneer vsx528

Consider looking at used ones, they can be very cheap as resale value is low yet people want to get rid of big bulky units.

Example: $600 for an RRP $2,400 unit: https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/innaloo/radios-receivers/higā€¦

That one's not 4K according to specs but look around your region. Remember cash on collection and make sure to test it before taking it home.

    Here's a $500 4K one: https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/caloundra/home-theatre-systeā€¦

    $300 Denon: https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/mordialloc/speakers/denon-avā€¦

I use a Sony Muteki STR-KM7000 hooked up to 14 speakers and 4 subs and very happy with it. Think it was $250-300.

    Check out Excel HiFi.

    Gotta get one with Atmos.

I picked up a Pioneer Atmos receiver for $300 off gumtree/marketplace. It was a $1500 receiver i believe but the guy was converting to a soundbar.
    Phenomenal sound.

Honestly the secondhand market for these is great.

I looked around at second-hand, and cash convertors etc, but settled on the Yamaha V6A price-matched for under $1k. Worth it and you at least know it'll last for a while

Looks like not many places have it in stock right now, so price is crazy, but if you can wait it's a good option

Go with Yamaha… they aren't trying to be flashy, but quietly they work hard on their products and make some damn good stuff. Saw many issues with other bigger brands and recalls, but Yamaha just makes good stuff.

Agreed with second hand - people are getting rid of them in favour of soundbars these days.
My 2nd hand Yamaha is excellent.
Avoid Onkyo (Some units have faulty HDMI boards, rendering them to be the same value as a paperweight).

  • Thanks for all the replies. Had an Onkyo previously that sh*t the bed and they wanted $800 to fix it which I kindly declined

    • They offered to sell me a refurbished one at a small discount. I kindly declined too.

  • I get all my stuff like that & more on Selby.com.au

  • I can get a Denon AVR-X1700H for just under $1k seems like a pretty good future proofed amp for a while? Is there anything it's missing I should be looking for?

    • I'm in the similar boat but my needs are more towards the latest technologies.

Looking to have at least 3 inputs that can passthrough 4k@120hz 4:4:4 and do VRR, ALL, QMS, QFT with support for HDR10, HDR10+ and DV

      Output needs to have eARC

The Denon AVR-X1700H meets my requirements. Mind letting me know where you were able to find this for under 1k? Thanks.
