DeLonghi Dedica Short Dispensing and Three Lights Flashing

Hi all, I have issues with my DeLonghi Dedica EC685BK that I bought less than a year ago. In the last few weeks it frequently happens that the machine will dispense little espresso (not the whole 1 shot or 2 shots) and then stops and all three lights flashing few times. Then the single and double shots light will be up and the machine is ready again. It is as if that the machine doesn't have enough pressure (eg. the grind is too fine). But it also happens when there is no basket attached.

Normally it dispenses 1 shot or 2 shots depending on which button I pressed and then (only) that button will flash few times before the single and double shots light are up.

I checked the manual for troubleshooting and didn't find this kind of issues. It was due for descaling a week ago and I did complete descaling hoping that it will somehow fix the issue. But it happens again.

Anyone experiences the same issues? Would love to hear some feedback. Thank you.

I've had this happen when the tank has run dry. Did it work correctly during the descale? Try repeating that but without any descaler.

It might be that enough water is not getting to the machine. Clean the water filter in the tank if you haven't already.

    • The descale went correctly and complete. I will clean the water filter later today and see if that makes any difference. Thanks.

      • I've had the odd issue with the basket, either filling too much or getting grounds stuck in the hole. But that doesn't sound like it with you as it happens without the basket attached.

Are you using the steam wand before dispending the shot? The only other thing I can think of it that it has overheated.

        • Correct, when the grind is too fine I will get the same issues. But it also happens without the basket attached as well.

I don't use the steam wand at the moment … heating up milk another way.
