25% off Meater Plus Smart Wireless Meat Thermometer $149.25 Delivered @ Thermomix

120

This is one of those high tech bits if kit that most ppl wouldn't pay this price tag for… but if you know, you know 🤫😉 My fellow Guga fans know what's up 🥩😅

I've been eyeing these things for a few years, checking in every now and then, but didn't see the point until I had a backyard, bbq, smoker etc.

The last deal I could find was 20% off @ Thermomix for Black Friday, so dunno if it'll drop more or if this is it.

Just realised JB Hi-Fi sells these. BBQ Galore also sells em too. So maybe price match and use discount cards if you have em 🤷🏾‍♂️

  • just saw this, but dunno how it compares as it doesn't have many specs

The one from OP seems to have 24 to 48 hour battery life, so could use for low & slow. The Bunnings one only 4 hours.

i AM the OP 😅 good find though 👍🏾
I was looking for max temps and how many sensors… but yeah, that 4hr limit already seems like it's pretty basic.

I'm waiting for reviews on this:

Ooft! I thought 2 sensors was good… yours has 8!!!
yes, very interested too… but $199 USD for one 😕

      • I was looking at the Meater Block, for better connectivity (wifi through the base). But it only comes in a 4-pack now (used to be a 2-probe version)…and at that price, buying one or two Combustion Inc ones doesnt looks so bad!

    • I'm hoping mine arrives before Christmas

      • Nice! You got in the 30% off presale? Tbh, I would have pre-orded as well, but by the time I decided to, I had missed the discount, so thought if I was going to pay retail anyway, I may as well wait for reviews first…but that 30% discount would have made it worth it! Dammit!

Let us know how it is! :)

  • Heard a lot of mixed things about Meater.
The Plus model seems to fix the connectivity issues, but quite a few reports of them just stop working after a short amount of time.

Very interested in one to use with my rotisserie.

    • a few reports of them just stop working after a short amount of time

this is concerning 🤔 i didn't know about this. actually really surprised as that's the first I've heard of it. then again, since we can buy them from stores here, ACL should cover yeah? 🤷🏾‍♂️

Its probably one of those "people who have the issues are the only ones that say anything" issues.

        • Quite possibly. My friend has 5 meaters and they work great for him. He doesn't post on forums so you'll never hear from him.

I’ve got a MEATER block. It seems to work quite well and I haven’t had any particular issues.

I haven’t used it super heavily, but it’s been easy and worked well whenever I use it. Got it for my vegan ex when she was trying to cook meat for me or for guests, she’s been Vegan for a long time and couldn’t taste test or reasonably eyeball meat when cooking, and it improved outcomes DRAMATICALLY.

Not sure it was worth the money since I did most of the cooking anyway. But for parties and Christmas and stuff where I’m trying to track and time a number of meals - it’s very handy.

I recently got a script for legal cannabis. It seemed like they’d be handy for making edibles as well. But I haven’t tried it yet.

      • Haha, bought a MEATER for the vegan…that is legit awesome! 🤣

I've had one for a year or so and love it. You need to be fairly close to the over/bbq to use it, but otherwise it's been fantastic. Often use for low and slow, and never had a battery issue. Use it 3-4 times a month.

    • Meater? or Meater+?
the range is meant to be 50m 🤨

      • +1

        Just meater

      • I’ve tried a couple of MEATER products - range is nowhere close to 50m on any of the ones I’ve tried. Maybe 50m of clear air without other radio noise… With the wifi relay station block, you just move that to be near the probe and it’s fine to talk to the wifi AP, and then to the phone app over pretty long distances. I get updates on a cook while I’m at the shop down the road. But I have a BBQ right outside my kitchen and can’t use probes in both the oven and bbq at the same time unless I open the doors - despite them only being about 4-5 meters apart and having the block in the middle.

  • I use a meater block, its so much easier than the cable one i used to use. It will connect to wifi, and i can keep an eye on the smoker via my phone when i'm out. Pretty exxy but great user exp. The two negatives are 1 the price and 2 estimated time to completion is not very accurate and changes througout. A brisket may say 1hr to complete, then an hr later 2hrs to complete.

  • It’s definitely handy with rotisseries. Also as it has two sensors one for the meat another for ambient temp also is helpful.

  • I like mine, easy to use - connects well - sometimes i reckon the temp doesn't align exactly with a stick thermometer but its fine. Works well.

Make sure the thermometer penetrates deeply into the meat.

These are pretty good. I have one that I use very regularly for rotisseries on my Kamado Joe but use it for tonnes of other cooks. Thought it would totally replace my inkbird 4t but they co exist nicely. Bought this version over the 4 probe block and don't really regret it (mostly).

Software is leagues above inkbird. It guides you through placement of probe for various cuts of meat. Recommends target temp and estimates time remaining reasonably well.

Bluetooth range is good enough. Say 25-30m from backyard through my house. You can place a spare phone/tablet within range to act as a repeater and monitor the cook from anywhere.

To nitpick.. Charges slow, need to clean the base of the probe everytime with scourer or risk it being dead when you need it, "stopped working" happened twice (fixed by removing battery in base and a series of dock/undock). App sometimes needs a force close if it's running in background between uses.

Good price I'd recommend. Especially if you are into smoking or rotisserie.
