Best ways to get into an airport lounge in KL?

Hi all,

My husband & I are going to HK in 3 weeks' time, we'll need to stop in Kuala Lumpur for 5 hours of transit.

May I ask what is the best way to get into a lounge at KL International Airport (Terminal M if it helps)?

We don't have any credit cards that come with airport lounges vouchers, and we are not frequent travellers, this is the first time we are considering trying the airport lounge service due to the time & length.

I had a look at the below and $120 for 2 people for 3 hours seems a lot, is there any other OzBargain secret this community can share?

Thanks in advance!

    Through the door.

    YMMV
    HTH

  • I like to walk in.

Priority pass maybe with a credit card?

So hard to move your legs in a coordinated fashion, left right left right and go straight through the door.

20 mins to deplane. Be at the gate 1hr before (because they need to rescan your stuff).

You could better spend the $120 at restaurants and cafes in the terminal. Unless you want a shower and held captive to the food in the lounge. The third party lounges are a bit iffy, sometimes very busy and full of people who want to take full advantage of their money. The MAS lounge was good, you could get a cooked meal but you can't buy entry.

  • If you're with CommBank, you can get a World Debit Mastercard. Not too sure when they will start charging the $10/mth fee, you can probably cancel once you're back. I had it for 2/3 years now for free but have yet to use it.
Comes with 2 lounge passes per year.

  • Without a credit card limited options - might actually be worth signing up if you have time

Priority pass and lounge key are your go to’s

Or just look at single visit entries to the lounges directly

  • We are quite elderly and like the lounge seating, drinks, food etc at KL. We also travel economy with Malaysia Airline and pay around $180.00 for the two of us for Golden Lounge of Malaysian airline this late November. Our dollar is a bit low at the moment so cost is up. However, depends on onward flight being with Malaysian Airline to get access for 3hours to the Lounge. I do it prepaid so no need to use cards or cash at the airport unless buying some expensive item at the duty free .

Depends on airline you are travelling with for onwards flight to gain access.so check with your airline to see what is available for the connecting flight to HK first to see which lounge you access and check against your ticket type.

If I was a young traveller I would not bother and just find a seat and wander around the airport as others sugges. You will need malaysian currency for purchases or use a card and beware of the exchange rate they charge and bank fees if you buy snacks or food around the airport.

  • Just had a five hour transit in KUL (which is a pretty dead airport these days).

Was planning on using the lounge, but Plaza Premium First was asking $120pp for five hours (so $360 for the three of us). However, found a (grotty but comfortable) couch at Starbucks and nursed a couple of coffees for the time. Total cost: $12.
(There was also a sports bar with comfortable seats available.)
