TP-Link Deco M5 vs TP-Link Deco S7

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with or knows anything about the TP-Link Deco S7.

I've been waiting for the Deco M5 to come on special again, as I want to pick one up for my house. Usage is mainly working from home, with a couple of wireless devices, a bit of streaming etc. I really want to utilise 802.11ac as its range currently doesn't really go that far in my house. I do have ethernet ports wired up in my house - especially at one end where the wireless is weak. I am connected to FTTP, and currently have a wireless router at one corner of the house.

Anyway, did a search and Good Guys Commercial has the Deco S7 3 pack for $182. The specs seem to be relatively close to the M5 - https://www.tp-link.com/au/compare/?typeId=5700&productIds=5…

Thoughts?

  • Just get some tri-band M9's

  • +1

They look a bit better than an M5.
    3 Gbe Ethernet ports.
    3x3 MIMO on 5Ghz instead of 2x2.

I’ve owned the M5 for years, and the flat form factor means they run for, so maybe the taller S7 would also run a bit cooler.

Personally, I’m waiting to get something with Wifi-6.

  • Thanks, might try the S7.

    • Any update on your experience? Are you happy with the S7, or did you go with something else? I'm currently in the same boat, looking at Deco S7 vs Deco M5.

      • It's ok, although for my use case, I was probably expecting a bit too much from them. Having said that, I don't think buying an M5 would have improved things. I'd say they're pretty equal, and if not, the S7 is a tad better.
