Planning on a trip to the US in Mar/Apr next year, current prices are not great. ~$2k+ with Sing Air, cheaper with Cathay Pacific but I don't want to spend 24 hours layover in HK.
Direct flights are stupid expensive.

Many people wait for SYD/MEL <-> HNL tickets to go on special on Jetstar and then pick up a cheap USA airline airfare return to the USA mainland.
Some ppl would stay a few days in Hawaii either both ways or one way over. However some other ppl (myself) are rethinking this strategy due to the stupid prices of hotels in Hawaii now.

Last I checked reward economy flights on points are worth looking at rather than paying $2,000 for US return.
The problem is availability but you can get it if you book far enough in advance.

I wouldn’t buy points but maybe look at smashing some sign up credit card bonuses.
Air travel pricing is generally based on the seasonality of when you'll be travelling, and not when you acquire the tickets.
Uh I think it's the other way around.
Black Friday is a US sales event. So only plane tickets TO Aus FROM the US will be on sale.
If you book the trip from Aus you probably will get zero discount.
is there a thing like an airline gift card that might be discounted and maybe they could use that to book the flights?
