Experience and Feedback on Washer/Dryer Combo

Hello Fellows,

My Washing machine is now about 10 years old and starting to rattle loudly on high spin cycles. Instead of getting someone to repair, I'm looking to get a washer dryer combo. Dryer would mainly be used during winter, as we mostly hang cloths when it is sunny.

I've narrowed to 4 models, mainly due to their high washing/drying load capability (for a 5 member family). To clear my confusions on which one to chose, I'm posting here to see how is your experience and feedback. I've created a poll and open for your opinions.

    Buy seperate washer and dryer.

Yep. Unless you live a shoebox and can’t fit both always go separate

No - do not do unless you are super desperate on space.

Family of 5 with Bosch combo. Washer has been great, runs every day or second day. Dryer is rarely used as it takes soooooooo long compared to a dedicated dryer. But during those nonstop rainy weeks, it's been a lifesaver.

Given the option we would choose to have separate appliances, but in the absence of space, my experience with washer/dryer combo so far has been good.

Unless you need to save space, get a separate washer and dryer.
The drying function of washer/dryer combo will not always completely dry your clothes.
If you put 1-3 t-shirts, it will. Any bigger load, I don’t trust it.
I’ve used Bosch and LG. Same thing.
My next one would be a Bosch.

    • I was inclined towards Bosch until I saw that combos we have are not German made. So looked at others as well.

Do not buy unless you are severely limited with space (even so I'd consider stacking rather than getting a combo)! This is based on my personal experience with a LG combo which I got rid of it within the first year. It did an OK job with washing but as a dryer it was practically useless. Got German made Bosch washer and a heat pump dryer and couldn't have been happier.

Electrolux Ultimatecare 700 Wash & Dry 10kg/6kg EWW1042R7WB. Great space saver and using the dry feature wisely u can make it work well. But I did get mine online under a price error when it was first released so unlikely u'll also find it for $1000.
Dryer takes between an hour and hour half for a few kilos to get them dry. Hot tip, never put more than 4kg in if u use the dryer.
    Good luck!

Don’t do it! They don’t wash or dry well, you can only dry 2/3 of the weight of the the wash function.
Everyone ive met who has one, said they regret buying a combo.

  • Looks like opinion is to go sperate. Space not a huge problem, worst case I can leave the dryer in the garage. I'll look separate option as well.

i have a lg washer dryer combo and it does okay. Look into what sort of dryer load you have and how often you run it during winter. Separate units are always better, but a combo would be fine if you don’t have much need for it.

We had a choice membership a while back, and I was looking at the same thing - the general consensus was that the combo options were worse than separate.

Then had some friends get one and it died fairly soon after they bought it, it was an LG. But heard good things about LG stand alone washer, dryer..

Seems everyone suggests buying them separately.
However, when I check the product page, sometimes it doesn't mention whether it's stackable or not (apartment, limited space) :(

We got an old LG combo: Greatest washer, crappiest dryer.
All statements above confirmed, nothing beats clothes dried on a line, sometimes a small de-humidifier in a closed laundry can do wonders.
