  • Can these dryers be mounted?

    • +35

I mean, if that's your kink, no judgment here…

    • +4

Heat pump dryers are too heavy to be mounted

      • +6

        I thought we weren't judging??

        • The door swings open wide enough…

    • +1

According to the manual it can be stacked, but requires a kit.

If you wish to stack your dryer above your washing machine you must purchase a stacking kit and ensure it is installed by a qualified person. Please make sure that there is sufficient ventilation and it is not placed in an area where dirt will accumulate.

I just sat ours on top of our washing machine and it's been fine

        • Yeah, me too and another member of the family. I dont know what the risk is but I haven't died today at least.

    • I sacked my dryer on top of my washing machine but you need to buy non slip pad from Harvey Norman for$40 to put it between them

Check it out before you buy from their ebay store.

It's odd. I've used them many times and I always got a next day delivery with the same driver

  • Does anyone find the closes don't quite dry?, its like it stops the cycle about 10 minutes too early.

    • Are you using extra and higher intensity?

    • Are you emptying the water tank after every load? Maybe it's getting full

      • It is plumbed into the sink, so no need to empty the water.

I'm not using higher intensity, just using standard cotton load which is 2hr:30min

        • +2

Just reading the manual again, its really a 4kg dryer.
8kg is only for thin cotton loads.

          • +1

@Jessie Ryder: Honestly in what world is it okay to sell something as 8kg that actually only handles 4kg.

        • That's a great idea, I need to do that 😅
2hr 30min maybe isn't long enough, especially compared to the apparent average of heat pump dryers below being 240 mins - I've always used Auto and had no problem, maybe try a load on that? Best of luck!

          • @Benjamin7711: There is no Auto, what button are you pushing?

            • @Jessie Ryder: My bad, I must have the old version - didn't realise they have a screen now!! The "my cycle" spot is auto on my machine

          • @Benjamin7711: if you have a lot of wet things like towels, will take longer may have to put it on again. It doesnt happen much but does happen sometimes.

    • Do you clean the condenser? Many will just clean out the lint filter forgetting about it which eventually leads to horrible drying and it tripping the thermostat in the back which is a quick reset but people assume it's dead and throw them out

      • No need to clean yet, it is brand new.

    • Is there a leaf flashing? I think you remove them for max efficiency. Mine will turn back on and get them completely dry sometimes.

      • No leaf, if you choose 'intensity' the leaf appears and it adds 10mins to all cycles.

I've been interested in these over normal hot dryers. For those that want a comparison, this isn't bad.

    Key Points

    • Heat pump dryers are expensive to buy but cheap to run, so they’re a good choice for heavy users
    • The traditional vented dryer (Normal dryer) can last a long time due to its simplicity, but it's a very energy-intensive appliance
    • Heat pump dryers use heat exchanger technology and they're significantly more energy-efficient than vented or condenser dryers – we're now seeing 9 and even 10-star energy ratings from several manufacturers (as opposed to two stars, which is typical for a vented dryer).
    • While all clothes dryers work by blowing hot air through your wet laundry, heat pump dryers are very different appliances compared with vented (or even condenser) dryers, and if you're considering one there are a few things to weigh up.
    • Heat pump dryers took 241 minutes on average for a full load, compared with 167 minutes for vented dryers in our test.
    • For heat pump dryers' moisture is collected in an onboard water tank instead of vented into the room (so less foggy windows or wet walls)

    10 year running cost
We've found heat pump dryers have an average 10-year running cost of $588, compared with an average of $1523 for vented dryers. And that's based on one run per week – if you're a heavy dryer user then the savings will be bigger, and you'll rapidly justify the higher purchase price.

I've got an LG one. Not used a dryer before very much. It is super efficient. Gets the clothes as dry as you need them to be. Does seem to collect a lot of lint (but maybe all dryers do).

You can use the tank or connect a drain hose (on mine).

  • Does anyone know the average lifespan of these dryers, not necessarily this brand but heat pump dryers in general?

The info from Froot Loops is good regarding return on investment over a 10 year period, but that doesn't really mean much if a dryer typically only lasts say 5 years.

    Cheers

Had our Fisher and Paykel for 6 years, was fixed once under warranty, something to do with a capacitor, recently had to get it serviced out of warranty and did it through the manufacturer, was under 300, something to do with a drum roller. Pretty good innings I think? Our Euromaid WM8 washing machine in that time got a new motor under warranty, and recently needed a new inlet valve, that was out of warranty. Turned out it was because our rental didn't have a pressure regulator on the mains which was very annoying

      • Thanks for the insight.

I've got a different model (older) but same brand. Has been great no issues. Over 5 years old now appears to be still going strong and use it all the time. Do a thorough lint clean (vacuum it out etc) monthly. A bonus is the water from the dryer gets collected and goes on plants outside.

Unless I'm doing something wrong, they won't deliver to Brisbane?

    • Yeah same, trying to buy one and it doesn’t let me. Says no delivery to Brisbane QLD.

    • same :(

    Thanks OP!
