Gaming Mouse - Logitech G502 Lightspeed or Razer Basilisk Ultimate

TLDR : Logitech G502 lightspeed or Razer Basilisk Ultimate or something else

I'm looking to get my husband a gaming mouse for his birthday. His 'wishlist' mouse is the Logitech G502 Lightspeed, but when I read previous deal comments there's lot of comments about the click issue. For some reason he thinks it's been fixed with the 'new mouse', I haven't seen anything about it.

Ive looked through Ozb and saw Razer Basilisk Ultimate was popular as well. Ratings wise the G502 seems to have a slight edge. Is the Basilisk the better choice? Otherwise is there something else I should consider?

He's right handed, plays shooting games (Ready or Not, Arma etc), wants about 11 customisable buttons or more, wireless dock charging. I'm looking to get one under the $160 mark.

Thanks for reading 😊

  • i would go with the basilisk ultimate, i bought one myself to replace a g903 with double click issues, but i haven't opened it yet.

the basilisk ultimate has optical switches, which, theoretically, should eliminate the clicking problems that other logitech and razer mice have.

surprised he wants an mmo mouse for shooting games, i would have thought he'd prefer the shape of the viper ultimate (same optical switches)

if you google "g502 lightspeed clicking issue" there are countless results.

    edit:

after a quick research to refresh my memory, it looks like the chinese omron switches are the problem when it comes to double clicking, the japanese omrons are supposed to be better, but apparently only used in very few mice (probably because they're more expensive). i sincerely doubt the g502 has been fixed. i vaguely recall an update several months ago to logitech software that was supposed to fix the double clicking issues, i recall that it worked for all of a week (and not all that well, it just reduced double clicking, it didn't eliminate it) before the doubleclicking went back to its normal level.

    • I did tell him but he said 'get the new one' and I dunno wth that means as it's not like manufacturing dates are published lol 😂

I did look up Viper but it has less buttons and his hands are pretty large

      • all i could find was this comment, but there's no way you'd be able to know until you bought the mouse and it either started experiencing the issue, or you took it apart and voided the warranty

i would go with the basilisk ultimate, to be safe, or you could give him the money and he could buy "the new one" lol

        • I'm more into reliability because I know I'll end up dealing with the returns if something goes wrong. I'm the Ozbargainer, he's the type that pays without looking at the price.

I was gonna get the Basilisk but I saw the Logi is now on Prime and their returns are pretty good. Just not sure how long it takes for the click issues to start surfacing

Just not sure how long it takes for the click issues to start surfacing

anywhere from several months to a year +

  • I've got both and I prefer the basilisk ultimate as it fits my large hands a bit better.

    • I'm leaning towards that as well, I'll add that to the Pro list. Have you had any click issue with the Logi?

      • Nah I haven't but I haven't used it much since getting the ultimate to be fair

I think your husband may be referring to the latest model https://www.logitechg.com/en-au/products/gaming-mice/g502-x-… when he said they are "fixed" the G502 X plus is the first Logitech mouse to use optical switches like Razer does.

Also the newer version of the Razer basilisk is called Razer Basilisk V3 pro https://www.razer.com/au-en/gaming-mice/razer-basilisk-v3-pr…

    • Ahh ok, he's not a pro gamer so I probably won't spend too much 😂

      • No worries just sharing.

Basilisk Ultimate $135.15 with Code: PLOCT15

        G502 Wireless $138.44

Logitech mice don't come with charging docks, but you can get aftermarket ones, i personally use https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003411020330.html one of these.

Ive never had any issues with any logitech mice ive had and ive owned a few different models but i can say there support is quite bad and slow for the one time i used it and many others also (google it) vs Razer which honestly are doing amazing these days with multiple reps that regularly post on r/MouseReview.

        • Thanks :) do you know how well Razer does in terms of support/warranty? I have read the bad reviews of both mouses and I like to prepare myself for the worst cases haha

          • @MeesusEff: Personally ive never went through an RMA with them, if you google Razer RMA reddit and compare what you see vs Logitech RMA reddit you can get an idea which people have had the better experience with.

  • I have the Razer Basilisk and it's a great piece of kit.

But if the Logitech is on his wish list, he's already done his research and has his heart set on they mouse.

I did the research before I got the Razer and to be honest if my partner got me a present and it was a different mouse that random people on the internet gave them advice on, I'd be a little bit disappointed.

Also does he have any other Razer stuff? There's a little ecosystem that goes on with these brands and people just have their favourites. For instance I started with the Razer mouse and now have a Razer mousepad, mini keyboard and gaming claw to go with it and they all play nice together.

    Get Mr F the Razer.

Logitech is his wish list but if there's a problem, I'll be the one that has to deal with it as he's a 'oh I'll just buy another one' person, he wasn't aware of the click issue though. When I looked it up, all the rating articles and such never mentioned it. I only found out from reading Ozbargain post comments and then googling the problem and there was a quite a lot of reddit posts.

No other razer stuff, did just get a HyperX keyboard last year and after getting the Evga graphics card last week, I think this is the last last thing left to go to complete his PC build.

      • Yes sorry, my conclusion meant to say the Logi!

Ah cool. Sounds like you're the only one doing the research then and you're doing it for the right reasons. I'm sure he'll love it!

The Razer is great for larger hands as mentioned above.

  • Got 3 G502s in my house with no issues.

Got the wireless razer; everyone preferred the Logitech

  • What does he have now? If he has other Razer gear then feel free to get him that.

If he wants the Logitech, and/or has other Logitech gear I wouldn't buy him something else. I personally dislike Razer crap (haven't had any for a long time for a reason), and wouldn't want a second set of software running for one device. I think the click issue is a bit overstated though, I had it in one Logi mouse, but it was ~9years old.

Had the original 502 for ~four years with no issue, had the 502 lightspeed for ~two now with no issue, MX Master ~three years no issue.

If you wanted something cheaper and wireless you could also look at the G703.
