Dude, why would you even want to stay with Optus after what happened, let alone get a discount?

    • Curious what others have done.

Curiosity is generally a sign of intelligence. I'm not sure on this one though.

Damage is done, leaving optus probably be cost you more. Either pay more for Telstra or break the contract.

i tried got nothing from them however im on 'contract' and they got my by the balls it will cost my over 600 bucks to break contract

i will 100 percent be changing one my contract ends

i only signed with optus because of the PL but now you can 'subscribe' to that separately ill be doing that i wont be coming back

    • Thanks for the comment.

i went from Telstra to Optus; now I cant wait to go back (8 more days so I get another jb hifi voucher); Optus reception is honestly horrible compared to Telstra in the same spot.

Optus reception is honestly horrible compared to Telstra in the same spot.

      Depends.

My wife was in a school camp in a small regional area (20 mins out of Warragul) and Optus was better than Telstra.

  • Personally I suggest everyone to ditch me. Optus gives 0 f about compensating customers. They do not compensate any customer, Not to me at least.

    They only deserve going bankrupt.
I will never come back to optus, I only held service for like 6months with f Ed up company that too like 2-3years ago.

Have 0 incentive or will to ever join em,even if they. Were to magically offer a lifetime free mobile phone deal. I would still refuse it and want FINANCIAL COMPENSATION

      Not worth it for Optus.

Typo, I meant everyone to ditch optus

Government should force optus to offer penalty free contract termination for anyone affected. That's the most fair actions. No need to cry in front of camera you CEO lady! Keep your drama at home. Compensate!

    • Agreed. Many people have been left without explainatin or offer of compensation (like me). Gov should be more supportive. Optus has left so many people left with their pant down.

  • I received this is the sorry this is what happened email saying "We've extended the 20% discount on your Wireless Broadband plan fee" hidden in the source code.
If you still have the sorry email Look at the source code for any mention of the word "discount".

Note: I am on pre paid and I don't get any discount supplied by optus. So even if you find the word it might not mean much. :p

    • Finding a "hidden word in the source code" won't help OP get a discount.

The reason why I say hidden was if you have the email with out images loaded then in mine it was clear as day.

        https://imgur.com/a/Iv6R2Ku
The text at the bottom shows what the email with out images saved to notepad says. I've only edited my name to show penguin and I deleted my email address the rest is 100% how I read it originally.

But as soon as images are downloaded (which I would say people 99.999% of the time do) that line mentioning the 20% discount vanishes which is a screen shot of the email in thunderbird. So I took the line of well I have to assume that the OP or anyone has downloaded images and might be stuck with them now. But if you highlight the full text from the email and copy it from thunderbird anyway to any non HTML reader program like notepad or even the text boxes here. Then it will appear again when you paste it which I have just discovered.

"We apologise unreservedly and are devastated this could occur. We are working as hard as possible with the relevant authorities "and organisations to ensure no harm comes from this unfortunate occurrence.
        Sincerely,
We've extended the 20% discount on your Wireless Broadband plan fee
        Kelly Bayer Rosmarin"

"Note: I am on pre paid and I don't get any discount supplied by optus. So even if you find the word it might not mean much. :p"

I wrote that because it might say something else which doesn't apply to you as it doesn't apply in my case. If you are on a post paid plan and it mentions a discount then I would at least chase it up with them.

But at the stage of writing the above post I didn't know of how to get a text email to show which was why I said view the email source code. We good now? :)

        • Don't feed the trolls. You don't have to justify at all.

Thanks for responding to my question and I hope that you feel happy with your discount (if you accepted…. I would have in my circumstances).

          • @bhm133:

Don't feed the trolls. You don't have to justify at all.

I felt like for the benefit of others maybe that I should explain it in more and clearer details as to where and how I found it. More importantly for others to find it.

While they kinda offered me a discount. The issue is the discount only applies to Post paid wireless broadband not Pre Paid wireless broadband like I use. :)

    • Thanks for the comment. I'll go back through my emails but don't believe I was offered a discount. Did you take the discount?

Why you would even consider Optus? You have so many other alternatives…
What are you expecting from them? They couldn’t even be bothered paying to implement a bug bounty Hunter program. Essentially you pay hackers to try and crack you and pay for that knowledge.
Should be compulsory for every company that holds onto personal data such as drivers licence, passport and Medicare.
What does that show me. Profits over consideration of customers personal information.
To be fair Telstra isn’t much better. Had someone sign up to a plan using my drivers licence number… the Medicare card number wasn’t even a valid one… the hassle to get that sorted. My wife and I missed out on a property we wanted because of the default on my credit.

    • That's horrible that you had the default on your credit. There should be more support for you and anyone else in your situation. I had some details taken and consider myself lucky. Things could still get worse as the block I put on credit can't go on indefinitely.

  • Further to that. If you are breached people should have terms of contracts cancelled but should still have to pay for a handset etc. if you are 23 months owing and 1000 on the phone then pay for the phone and leave…

    • Agreed. How can we make this happen though?

      • Just go in and tell them you'll pay for whats owing on the device and that you'd like to leave. Why because you've leaked my personal details.

  • To get money out of Optus you need to see your lawyer.

    • I'll be signing up for class action if/when the ball gets rolling; more than just an expression of interest.

I checked with Optus online chat and they are telling me none of my data has been compromised, how true that is well should i believe them I have no idea

    • Optus chat staff are completely useless when it comes terms to that a whole heap of incorrect info coming from them. "No you weren't affected" to 48 hours later "oh sorry and they got everything…"

      https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/optus_sept_2022_breach read from
"What data on my Optus account could have been exposed? Can I find out if I used my drivers licence, passport or Medicare?"
If you are still with optus then follow the login stuff on the whirlpool wiki page it will give you an idea. :)

I contacted them, hoping for some discount, but was offered nothing except 12-month subscription to Equifax (an identity protection service that’s previously been hacked).
