Poll for Monitor Arms: NB F80 vs NB H80 vs VIVO V002

Hi guys, wanted to get opinions from people on which monitor arm to go for to mount 2 x 27" monitors.

The 3 options I'm tossing up are: NB F80 vs NB H80 vs VIVO V002 - all popular Amazon options.
NB F80: https://www.amazon.com.au/Monitor-Motion-Swivel-Spring-Compu…
NB H80: https://www.amazon.com.au/Monitor-Motion-Swivel-Spring-Compu…
VIVO V002: https://www.amazon.com.au/VIVO-Monitor-Mount-Adjustable-Scre…

Keen to see what the mounts also look like in real life for a dual monitor setup. I do like the angular arm look of the NB F80 (https://imgur.com/8B86WXH), rather than just have a pole, and not sure what 2 x poles (i.e. NB H80) will look like. But the F80 appears a bit bulky looking..

  • The north rep has explained his thought/the differences between two. Please search old thread about those arms.

I have dual arm so I know I will pick the h if I can turn back the time.
If you don't have any yes you will think f is better.

  • I have 3x Dell 27" monitors each held up by an NB F80. The yellow NB stickers at the foot of the monitor arm can be peeled off, but leave a recess where they sat.

If your desk wobbles you will get some monitor shake with these monitor arms, but I find this is only noticeable if I am heavy handed with gear changes on my sim racing setup.

I can't really comment on the H80, though I think the straight pole allows for a higher monitor placement, but I could be wrong.

  • I used to use the F, but changed to H because H can reach a higher monitor height and more manoeuvrable in tigher spaces. Ie. There was no need compensate for the F elbow when placing monitor low.

Can't say one is better than the other, but H was better for my space

    • Would one be better if trying to place as close as possible against wall?

      • H is better for me against the wall. I can activate the arm to being the screen up and down without issue.

When i had the F, the elbow hit the wall when moving up and down AND when trying to keep the monitor in the same vertical alignment.

  • H80 for additional height such higher position than normal or larger monitors.

F80 for additional reach from front to back of desk. The first arm is almost 45 degrees which gives a closer possible position for the second arm, compared to "straight up" first arm on the H80.

    • Actually also just read the F80 may have issues with recessed mounts..

      • You mean recessed Vesa mounts? Yes some arms have that issue good idea to check before buying if you have a recessed vesa mount.

Here is an answered question on the F80 Amazon page though:

Is the mounting plate an X shape or square shape?
        Answer:
Hi and thanks for the question.
The manufacturer changed the VESA plate a while back because the old one would not work with recessed mounts as it was too wide at the top. The new square one is 118mm x 118mm.
All these Amazon listings are owned by Amazon effectively, and then only the listing creator or Brand Owner can get them changed.
The VESA plate is now square on all the North Bayou monitor mounts with only very small minor differences between them all.
        Kind regards,

So sounds like they updated the F80 to work with recessed vesa mounts?

And here is a review from the H80 page:

        XZT
5.0 out of 5 stars Works as a monitor arm
Reviewed in Australia on 3 November 2020
        Verified Purchase
Monitor arm with a good range of adjustments.
Bracket fits for recessed VESA mounts.

So sounds like both models should fit recessed vesa mounts regardless.

    • +1

H80 over F80 - the bracket fits into more monitors especially recessed ones.

      • The new F80 fits into recessed monitors now.

        • is the F80 a square now too? thats good that they responded to customer feedback

          • @Fergy1987: Yeah if you read the "customer questions" and reviews for both models they both now fit recessed vesa mount.

    • H80 is much more adjustable than F80. Especially if using multiple screens. Bigger range of heights too. Really like it

      • "Bigger range of heights too."

Yep H80 with the vertical pole allows for greater height adjustment which is ideal for larger displays such as 32".

The F80 with it's 45 degree first arm is ideal if you have a deep desk or just want more forward and back distance adjustment.

    • If you want two monitors NB makes a H160 or something, two monitors version of H80

      • I would avoid the dual monitor on single clamp arms. It puts twice the weight and stress on the single clamp, which can cause clamp to crush cheaper type desks and both the arm and monitor will fall down.

Using two single monitor arms also gives better flexibility in positioning each monitor. You might think it's just for putting the monitors apart from each other, but no the dual monitor arm with two 24" or 27" inch monitors limits the forward and back distance you can position your monitors because the arms need to bend behind the monitor in order to put the two monitors side by side.

        • I agree on your first point. I put a blank between my desk and the clamp on both sides to fix this.

Your second point depends on the type of stand. The F80 style ones, yes you are right. The design of the H80 style ones with the beam lets you individually move the monitors back and forth/up down, whilst maintaining alignment individually. Because they have more freedom of motion

    • Get H80 if more height adjustment is important for you. e.g. you have a large monitor or you just want to position your monitor at a higher position.

Get the F80 if forward and back distance adjustment is more important. e.g. you have a deep desk or you want to position the monitor closer to your sitting position.

Most people get the F80. If you have a heavier monitor I suggest going with the F100 or H100.
      Don't bother with the Vivo.

      • Why not the Vivo?

        • Well it's dual monitor arm to begin with, so imagine the weight of two monitors on that small foot at the base.
On top of that I can just see by it's design that it's movement is very limited. You won't have as much options in terms of positioning as you would with 2x F80's and the dual arm design NB which will still have the issue of the weight of two monitor arms on a single foot and the issue of the movement limited even more by the fact the monitors will be banging into each other.

You might think positioning will be set and forget, but trust me you will want to put the monitors on the arm and then move each one into position as you sit at your desk. Once in awhile you will also find yourself moving them slightly to feel refreshed. Only the more flexible NB arm design will allow this to be done with ease because they use gas struts.
The 1 star review on on the Vivo Amazon page pretty much sums it up.

    • FYI, I have the IKEA Bekant (non sit/stand) in 160x80 cm size.

      • I looked up the specs on the Bekant, the good thing is the tabletop is melanine particle board which is better than a hollow core desk but still not as tough as a hardwood tabletop which is 100% wood.
Personally I still wouldn't risk putting two monitors on a dual monitor arm with particle board just because of the stress it puts on the single foot. If you grab two NB arms which is not that much more than a NB dual arm, it will spread the weight of each monitor onto an individual foot.

Regarding the depth of 80cm. That is the same depth as my desk and it is deep enough that my monitor arm (which is the H80 type) does not protrude past the back of the desk. The arm is in a sideways V shape and it holds the monitor exactly in the middle of the desk so around 40cm from the back and the monitor could be moved closer forward if it wanted to. My monitor is on the large side at 32". Personally I prefer the H80 type because in my opinion the thick pole makes it more stable which means less wobble when you hit the desk etc. The H80 type is also the most flexible in terms of positioning in my opinion, but if you want the extra height you will want to set it on the pole high to begin with. Otherwise during adjustment you will need to loosen the grip on the pole and adjust the height afterwards with the monitor on which will be trickier.

By the way sorry to correct myself, the F80 actually has less reach than the H80. F80 manages 53.5cm while H80 reach to 55cm. I was thinking of a different design where the gas strut was directly on the pole. Like this which has less reach https://www.amazon.com.au/Brateck-Monitor-Aluminum-VESA75x75…

  • So, got the F80 and finding that every time the desk shakes a bit, the monitors wobble.

Have to admit the IKEA Bekant (not automatic sit stand) is not the most sturdy desk but even so …

Has anyone had this issue? Is there any fix or better to go with another arm?
