RTX 3080 Ti Brand New for $950 on Gumtree - A Scam?

Hi, I have been in talks with a random person residing in Melbourne CBD on Gumtree for purchasing an open box (GPU still sealed in bag) RTX 3080 Ti for $950. They also do shipping, but I don't know if I could be scammed because of this.
The pictures look legit, but the fact that he has a PayPal linked to his Gumtree account but somehow cannot use it is somewhat unsettling, and he has asked me to send the money via bank transfer.
Is this guy for real? Do you think it's safe to buy from him?

    Looks like a scam. You will bank transfer money, not recoverable, police wont be interested that you were shipped nothing.

    I do not understand why this needs to keep being said, why would you trust someone you do not know to send you something that you gave them the money for upfront.

    if it looks too good to be true…it probably is. Especially on scamtree.
