Will Game actually clear their stock?

So I have been to a Game store a few times in the last few weeks, and it is completely full of stock. From what I overheard it seems this store has received a lot of stock from other stores that have closed, shelves are definately full and no idea how much out back.

The problem is the nature of their 'clearance'. 'Everything' is %60 off except that:
1: The starting price is too high
2: All 'sale' products are not included

The end result is that almost everything in the store is cheaper at JB. So I'm wondering, are they actually going to get serious about clearing this stock? Or are they going to give up and write it off in bulk? The 'final' (overheard) 60% off sale has been going for a week now, and apart from a few key titles they don't seem to be selling much.

  • They've probably negotiated a buy-back with the suppliers. For example, Sony might be happy to buy back all the Vita stock because they'll sell it on to someone else relatively easily (JB, EB, etc). Then, all the stuff they couldn't return is in the 60% off (which is why all the pre-owned is in there).

That's just a guess, but I think it might be close to being accurate.

  • Their Tuggeranong branch appears to have closed - I walked past it yesterday and thought to look for deals, but the razor wire was up.
