6900xt vs 3080

I’ve always preferred nvidia tech, dlss, ray tracing aswell as just the look of their gpu. I was reading online that the 6900xt is better however I remember amd having driver issues. Which should I get? The 3080 is around $1100 and 6900xt is currently $900 on Amazon au

get this for 3090ti performance , if you don't care about RT and DLSS

    • Oh I think RT and dlss is a big deal tbh especially with triple a games like cyberpunk it looks drastically different
, you still think it’s a good choice?

      • +1

However for most games it isn't vital until it becomes more important in the future. The 6900XT destroys the 3080 for a much cheaper price

  • If you want dlss and ray tracing, go for the 3080. If you want raw speed, go for the 6900xt. The difference isn't really that huge and you'll be kicking yourself either way for paying $1k for a 2 year old GPU once the next round come out in a couple of months (personally, I'd be looking for used around $600-700).

AMD drivers are pretty mature at this point for the 6xxx series, I wouldn't be too worried. Just make sure you have a good PSU, the 6900xt seems more sensitive to power draw issues.

    • Thank you! Maybe I’ll just wait for the 4070 hahha cause yeh I think RT and dlss are some big features

  • At this stage wouldn't it be better waiting to see what the 4070 is like? That should be around $1k yeah?

    • I also suggest thinking about the 4000 series, what resolution will you be gaming at?

      • i mostly game at 4k 60fps i love my graphics ngl haha and love triple a games. dont really play esport games which people play at 1080p high frames

        • Isn't 60 fps to little? Just curious because unless all u play are single player games then aren't u at a big disadvantage?

          • @LuslecGrace: Might get some hate here after 60fps I don’t really see a difference ngl

          • +1

@LuslecGrace: I mostly play single player games tho so it’s not big deal I’m sure with multiplayer games it’ll be much better however I prefer single player experience and never had issue with 60fps

          • +1

@LuslecGrace: 60 fps is perfect for a single player experience… 120+ for multiplayer is too good i cant go back.

    • This was actually my plan but I’m worried it’s priced so high the 3000 series goes back up or maybe by next bull run. Will the 4070 be comparable to 3090?

      • 4080 12gb, was going to sell for $2000 for 10% more performance than a 3080 10gb, to think that the 4070 will be anywhere near the 3090 is nvidia marketing lmao.

        • oh yeah i saw just now hahaha 16gb is going for 2.2k which is kinda insane ngl

          • +1

@hardyz1000: '2.2k' msrp according to nvidia, if 30 series told us anything, thats minimum $2600

            • @abjsdhasehasee: thtas kinda (profanity) sheeesh maybe i just go for the 6900xt, id get a 3080 ideally but theyre so expensive still

              • @hardyz1000: rarely you see a 3080 for 750 second hand, or a new 6900xt for 900. 6900xt better raster but worse RT, dlss/fsr not important honestly.

                • @abjsdhasehasee: Yeah defo the 6900xt deal is insane especially coming from amazon. Is rt a big deal in your opinion

    • +2

Lol 4070 is gonna be like $1400

      • thats not too bad if it comes close to 3080 performance. ive heard dlss 3.0 is insane

        • +1

it should be at 3080 performance for $800 lol

  • A good deal on a 6900xt is the way to go. DLSS is performance increase with degraded visuals, not worth it when your buying a high end card anyway. RT i have never used, despite having a 3060, 3080 and 3090 haha. I only brought nvidia because of deals and availablity at the time, they are overrated.

    • sheeesh, you think prcies will continue to drop for nvidia?

      • Nah, too many idiots like myself begging to be fleeced, nvidia will indulge us haha

  • If you find a good deal for 6900 xt then go for it. I purchased my 6900xt for $999 months ago, and very happy with it. But at this moment, waiting for rtx4000 or amd 7000 is a better choice if you cannot find 6900xt for under$900

    • Yeah tbh I really want the 4000 series, you haven’t had any issues with the 6900xt?

      • No driver/power/heat issue so far. I mainly play 2077. So when I turned off rt it runs 4k60fps on most of scenarios.

        • sheesh thats on ultra too? yeah im mainly getting it for 4k60fps too haha want to take advantage of this 4k monitor and i barely use the ps5

  • If you care about ray tracing get a 3080. The 6900's performance tanks to the equivalent of a 3070 when using ray tracing.

    • i see thank you very much

  • Honestly, unless you're streaming or needing to use the nvenc encoder, I'd go the 6900xt. Personally I'm not a fan of the performance hit either card takes on RT and I just turn it off for the most part. AMD are also have their own version of DLSS, AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, which you can incorporate into Cyberpunk with a mod if you want, but with such a beefy card, it's not really important. Helped my son run Cyberpunk real nice on his RX580 though!

    • thats great to hear you got it working for him! honstly i dont really stream just ive heard DLSS from nvidia was far superior however since you had a good experience seems like amd caught up to nvidia

      • Check youtube on DLSS 3.0 and how it affects visuals negatively. If you still think it’s important then go green.

  • RT->NV
    non RT -> AMD
6900xt is better in gaming without Raytracing
Unless you're running 4k monitor then DLSS might help

    • yeah i have a 4k/60hz monitor with freesync no gsync so you think nidia beter overall?

  • have had 6800XT since release without any driver issues, i think driver issue is mostly reputation now from previous generations.

simplest choice is if you intend to play ray tracing then Nvidia, if not then AMD.
another indicator would be freesync for AMD and gsync for Nvidia.

personally, I think AMD is still the value winner as RT doesn't have enough traction to justify the extra $$ spent on Nvidia.

    • Yeah ik wym also nvidia has had many issues in the past too

    • +1

Thank you for letting me know do you game on 4k on your 6800xt? I ended up buying the 6900xt for $900+ aud was pretty good deal

      • good stuff, think you'll be happy with the 6900XT, $900 is a good deal. I bought my reference 6800XT at launch for $1000.

not 4k, mostly just multiplayers so 1440p at 140hz. i do play some single players like cp2077 which was still very nice even without RT.

  • I'm after an upgrade mainly for gaming (MSFS2020, DCS, ARMA, IL2) on 2K - whats better? 6900xt or 3080? I know MSFS is CPU bound (apparently) so I've already upgraded to the 5800X3D..just need an upgrade on my 2070S.
