Jaycar Thermal Paste for 5950x

Should I buy new thermal paste for a 5950x or would Jaycar thermal paste be sufficient (that I've been using for awhile)? If new, what would be a suitable brand?

Thanks

Didn't it come with thermal paste?

That would be like buying a bike and it doesn't come with pedals !!!

Most bikes don't come with pedals, which you know, hence your comment ;)

      • Most bikes don't come with pedals

        Most do…

          Most don't

This could go on a while

@oscargamer: I just popped into 99 bikes and counted 88 with pedals, and 11 without.

@jv: You have way too much time and way too many fingers

  • Noctua NT-H1 should be what you're using, not some random stuff from Jaycar.

    • Just found out my CPU cooler, Dark Rock Pro 4, comes with a small amount of thermal paste. Is it still worth getting the Noctua NT-H1?

        That should be fine.

        • Thank you. That saves spending another $10 - $20

          • @thisusernameistaken: Even if you did spend the extra few bucks on a tube of brand name thermal paste, it will last for quite a long time. A 3.5 gram tube goes a long, long way.

            • @dtorr: The BeQuiet paste is definitely good enough though.

you'll basically only see a few degrees difference between most brands, I wouldn't sweat it if you have no 'premium' brands on hand and you only have the stock stuff that came with your Dark Rock cooler.

        • Its really not about the degrees difference, its more about how long it lasts, the better the quality the longer it lasts before drying out and needing to be redone.

The bulk thermal compound from JayCar is not suitable for CPU's, they're appear to be low end and might have average thermal conductivity.

I might consider them for Raspberry Pi's and other low-end stuff but with a Ryzen 9 that outputs so much heat I'd consider something like a Noctua or Arctic Silver.

  • thermal paste from jaycar is probably more suited to ICs and that kind of thing. Get something made for PCs. I use a $6 Deepcool one I got on amazon no issues. But if you wanna splurge get something more name brand, noctua, thermal grizzly etc.
