Waterproof Shoes for The Office/Corporate Setup?

Hi,

Can someone please suggest a good waterproof shoes for an office/corporate setup? My work is not strict with clothing, so it can be anything.

I was thinking getting some Dr Martens, but not sure if that's waterproof. Any improvement from a Chuck Taylor (which I wear everyday) would be great. Budget around $150 to $200 max.

The Nike range of Gore-Tex shoes are pretty good. I have a pair of Air Force 1's that I wear every time it rains.

    Blundstones?

Curious what sort of work requires waterproof shoes but not safety shoes?

Might be so they don't have to swap shoes with the constant wet weather in NSW.

Crocs are completely waterproof, and also float.

    The socks inside are not.

    • I hope you drown.

      • Maybe ad the /s. I think some ppl might miss the joke.

For something comfy & casual try vessi.

  • They don't make the exact model I have but I wore Ecco hiking shoes in the office for years. They're all black leather so don't look like a hiking shoe and they're Goretex so water proof. Great wear and comfortable.

  • anything leather (like Docs) will generally be at least as waterproof than a soft shoe with goretex; the difference is that hiking shoes are designed with waterproof in mind so (for example) minimise gaps around the tongue and laces where the water can get in whereas leather shoes might have large lace holes which let the water through. However it will be a fairly marginal difference in most cases

As others have said, boots such as bludstones or RM Williams, which dont have laces/slip ons, will be pretty much the most waterproof you can get. Plenty of people wear these to the office

    • Just get some gum boots. Or waders.

      Then you're covered for sure.

  • Doc Martens are pretty waterproof. My current ones are about 7 years old and water will get in only if I stand fully in a puddle for more than about 20 seconds total in a day (before they've been able to dry out). When they were younger they kept out all water

  • I wear Dr Martens Graeme II Chelsea in the same setting.

I think 2976 Smooth is its replacement.

Elastic gusset isnt waterproof, but the rest is. Black, browns. Yellow or black stitchings, and nonslip soles.

These RRP higher than your budget but they commonly go on sale. I got my Chelseas for sub$200.

A stroke of luck. I wear gumboots around the office. They really give me an advantage in negotiations.

  • Hi-Tec shoes.. they also last well.

  • If you wear chucks lot work and that's okay, look at the Chuck's All Weather (mine are a few years old so they may have changed this name). They also have both Gore-Tex chucks and water resistant ones as well (the latter being more subtly branded than the former)

Your other option would be a leather shoe with a rubber sole (and by rubber I mean the Dainite brand sole - loads of brands use them). They a fantastic sole that last forever and are waterproof (but they can be slippery on wet tiles); be warned though the brands of shoes they are attached to are not cheap but you get what you pay for
