Replacement Glasses Lenses

Hi all, I stupidly sat on my glasses and the lenses broke. Specsavers don't replace lenses they don't sell and the neighbouring optometrist said they'd take a month and I'd need to send them away to get a quote and refused to give me even a ballpark price. I found that to be really bizarre.

So I thought I'd search online and there are a multitude of options. I wanted to ask the OzBargain brains trust what websites you've used that are cheap, have lens options like blue light filter and are good quality. Lead time isn't of concern as I don't use them frequently.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: what other lens options are out there that you'd recommend? I'm only using them indoors for the computer and occasionally TV. Is blue light filter the only one I need? I don't need bifocal and my eyesight isn't really bad. I have also done an eye test and have a fresh script though I forgot what it said, not particularly bad.

  • Try OPSM, I’ve brought my own frames to them and they have changed the lens with no issues. They should also be able to help you with the different lenses, etc. Price wise not sure if they are the cheapest.

  • clearly is pretty decent.

I've bought from there twice. usually a code to get discounts.

    also goggles4u.com

    zanni.com

  • Get cheap glasses at Specsavers and ask if you can pay extra to get them done in a rush. It will be the cheapest and quickest option.

  • I ordered a pair of high-prescription glasses from https://www.zennioptical.com/ and received them within a week in Melbourne. I highly recommend them.

  • I use zenni

  • I used these guys and they have been good and cheap.
Although its from china so not sure of the turn around time

  • Thanks all for the suggestions! Just to clarify, I only want lens replacement. Do these places allow me to send my glasses to them to replace?

  • Thanks @Ugly for the recommendation for Optically, but the advertised SAVE20 code to save 20% doesn't seem to work!

If I can get the code to work, bringing it down to around $100, is this a reasonable price?

Are there any companies I can send to overseas that would be cheaper with blue light filter? I don't need bifocal or special thin lenses.

I really would prefer to just get my existing glasses reglazed (TIL that's the term for getting new lenses!) instead of buying new ones.

    • Can’t comment on the code - maybe contact them to see if they will honour it?

  • Weird ive brought my own glasses to specsavers to have just the lenses replaced before. Unless things have changed since this was few years ago. Ive never heard of anywhere that wont replace lenses

    • No idea, I went into Specsavers, booked for an eyesight test, then at the end when they asked me to go try glasses on, I produced my broken pair and the SA said sorry, we don't fix glasses we don't sell. So I went a few doors down in the small local shopping centre and that's when I was even more gobsmacked. My faith in bricks and mortar retail declines more and more each time I buy something in person, or at least try to.

  • Similar thing happened to me, the screw on one side came loose and one of the lenses fell out. I would have had to send my glasses away to get the lenses replaced (so be without at least 1 lens) and also pay for them even though it was their crappy frames that caused the problem. And it would take 8+ weeks according to the staff member. I ended up buying new glasses from OPSM and they came back in a week and a half.

I would advise just buying a new pair, otherwise you'll have to be without glasses for a longer period (time to send the frames away as well as receive them).

  • Spec savers have put perscitpion lenses in glasses they don't sell fof me many times.

  • What im curious off is how many online retailers can you claim back from your health insurer?

    Clearly?
    Danni? Etc

    • I don't know about others, but Optically is covered, even for reglazing glasses. All you have to do is go to their website and check. If they do, they'll be sure to tell you about it as it's a huge selling point.

"Optically is accredited with all Australian Health Funds. This means that when you buy your men’s spectacles online from Optically, you can claim for your purchase from your health fund provider."

"We also reglaze sunglasses, polarised lenses and a wide range of thin prescription lenses - all at direct optical warehouse prices. Remember, we are registered with all Australian health funds and this means that you can claim for your reglaze service from your health fund, if you would like to. Questions? Call us on 0476 259 277 and we will be happy to help."
