Surely only get this if you absolutely cannot afford last gen base iPad for $479 from Amazon?

      Completely different OS

And if you are an Android user then using iOS is frustratingly different. That's not to say one system is better than the other. I contemplated moving to an iPhone last year to align with rest of family and use Facetime and iMessaging. However, I stayed with Samsung/Android - in part because I'm heavily invested in Samsung devices (they work easier with each other than with Apple) and because of the frustration of doing things in iOS when I'm used to Android. YMMV but I suspect most long term Android users tend to target Android devices and long term Apple users, Apple devices.

        • If you uselong a Samsung phone then it syncs to the tablet natively. For sharing messages and phone etc like iPhone does with ipad

yeah same like Surely only get this Holden if you absolutely cannot afford last gen base Tesla ?

    • You in wrong forum man, this is Oz bargain not mac rumour.

Cheap, but hard to recommend an Android device that was launched 2.5 years ago - hard to imageine it has much software support time left.

    • +1

i wouldn't worry too much about the software support.
Chrome OS got 8 yrs software support but full of bugs, Android 6 got no support now but works fine.

        How about security vulnerability?

        • I am still getting security updates on my Tab A 2018. Once a year instead of monthly now.

        • +1

never heard of any devices got hacked becoz its using Android 6.
its more about where u get ur apps from not the OS itself.

  • What version of wi-fi does it come with? All I can see is 'fast'.

  • Would be good tablet for kids to be creative with S-Pen, been looking for a lower end tablet for my daughter to draw.

The website is lacking as to which model this is.

If this is the 2020 version with Exynos 9611 (Model P610), I suggest giving it a pass - you can get better.

If this is the 2022 version with Snapdragon 720 (Model P613), then it is a pretty good price. Otherwise, the P613 is $439 from binglee (or $417 with ebay plus via their ebay store)

    • The old one, the description is reading android 10 and Exynos 9611.

Definitely get the new 2022 of only for the software support, the 2020 model can't have long to run before updates stop

  • I was thinking to get this or Lenovo tab m10 gen 3.
Concern is long time support of Android update with Lenovo past android 13.
Will that mean it will be vulnerable to hacks if it's not the latest Android?

  • How is this compare to Galaxy Tab A8 2021?

    • This is miles better.

    • This alllows pen input, with pen included in the box.

      Also, Dex mode.

Bought this tablet when it released, now it's just all laggy except for note taking and drawing.

I have the Tab A 10.1 2019, and same deal. It turned to absolute trash and so I use it for Spotify and that's it.

On the weekend I finally cracked it and sideloaded LineageOS, and it literally breathes new life into the tablet. Something that a factory reset can't do.

Lineage is light weight and pretty sure open source - highly recommend.

      • How secure is it?

        • +2

Breaking the factory seal on any device comes with a security risk, however Lineage (from my research) appears to be pretty good in terms of security.

You will need to keep the device updated yourself (I'm pretty sure). So be aware of that in terms of security patches.

          • @BirdPirch: can you still have Samsung notes on it? And will the pen still work?

            • +1

@basicconsumer123: Ooooh, see I don't believe you get full functionality of the S Pen - and I'm not sure what function is reduced. That may be a question for XDA forums.

And S Notes, definitely not. It's tightly bound to Samsungs OS and it simply won't function. It probably can't even be installed.

Get this and instantly sideload LineageOS.

Sold my s6lite and got the xiaoxin pad, miles better in every way

    • Where did you buy it, and which model did you get ?

  • Bought this tablet on this deal. Still going strong!! Excellent media tablet. YMMV of course.
