Access Qantas Club Domestic with Oneworld Gold Status

Hi all.
Looking for some advice from the high flyers out there!
I'm flying Melbourne to Sydney next week with a companion at the end of a frantically busy day, both on Qantas flights, and lounge access would be perfect!
We're both Qantas Bronze, but I'm currently oneworld Gold through Qatar.
I've read that the pro way to get lounge access is to get a boarding pass at the airport at a service desk, requesting that the pass reflects oneworld gold status.
Others have suggested that flashing your status on your phone when checking into the lounge will do, although not infallible.
Was wanting people's thoughts, experiences?
Thanks!

There isn't a 'oneworld gold', is your tier Sapphire or Emerald? If so, you'll be able to use the lounge (Qantas club) just show your membership.

  • I would think you are Oneworld Sapphire - your booking should reflect your Qatar membership for seating and baggage allowances. Once in the lounge request that this be updated to your QF FF number.

I think you mean you are Qatar Gold status which is equivalent to Oneworld Sapphire status. According to the Qantas lounge website "Sapphire members enjoy Gold Frequent Flyer benefits". You don't need your status to be shown on your boarding pass. All you need is to get your boarding pass. And then go to the lounge, show your boarding pass and show your Qatar airlines Gold status and that will get you in

  • Thanks for the replies!
As you can see I'm a status newbie. I have Velocity Gold and did the status match with Qatar that was on offer some time ago.
My flight is a Classic Rewards flight on Qantas (not Jetstar), my companion also on Qantas.
It would be much more convenient to check in online, but no, my booking does not reflect my oneworld status in any way… is there somewhere I need to update this? As its a Rewards flight I guess the default is my QFF.
Also the plastic never came through, but my status is clear on the Qatar app.
Is there anything else I need to do? Confusing!

    • No, as I have said before as long as you have somewhere (Card, App) that shows your Qatar Airlines status then that is all that is needed. I don't carry cards anymore as well and have both Virgin Gold and Qantas Platinum and I only show my status on my phone through the respective apps at lounges all around the world and have had 0 issues so far in getting in to all the lounges that I am entitled to get into

      • Thanks!

      • See I tried this and they said no the FF number has to be on the booking. Qantas Perth was absolute a**holes about this. I am Emirates Platinum.

Like you cant have a qantas number on the booking and then show your Emirates card.

        • So it might be an idea to get the OW FF on the boarding pass then? Or phone Qantas and have them update the booking? I’ve heard that story from others.

          • @Sweet3st: They can just update it when you go up to the lounge. What I do is update it to get into the lounge, and then change it back at the gate. Works fine. A few more steps.

          • @Sweet3st: Good luck trying to reach Qantas by phone!

  • As an aside, I'm wondering what you foresee as being 'perfect' in the Qantas domestic lounge?

    • Ha ha 😂. Yes it is a glorified canteen isn’t it?! We will be coming direct from Flemington racecourse on Melbourne Cup day, flights aren’t until after 8. Somewhere to change, have a glass of wine, and hopefully comfy seats.

Somewhere to have more wine, puke in a bin and pass out on the floor…lol

Jokes aside, hope you have fun!

        • …at the end of a frantically busy day…

OP may want to take some time to sober up if overindulgent during the day

It is an offence to enter an aircraft whilst intoxicated, or to be intoxicated on an aircraft

        • Mate, you don't puke in the lounge bin. You puke in the lounge shower.

Yes it is a glorified canteen isn’t it?

I wouldn't describe it as glorified in any way, shape or form.

  • Ha ha! All work and little play I’m afraid so we’ll need that glass of wine 😉

Thanks all. I ended up messaging Qantas on FB and they added my Qatar FF number to booking. Doesn’t mention my status but hopefully it will be enough for the lounge nazis!

    • TBH, calling people doing their job "nazis", I hope you don't get in.

      • As in ‘soup nazis’. Its a common term for people who are rigid and inflexible.

Pretty sure the term is lounge dragons ;)
