  • Says you need to have GWENT in your library to claim šŸ˜”

Gwent is free so you can get that and then get The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

      • +3

Oh, ok haha. Silly me. Thank you!

    • +2

The game is free. Have you claimed the game yet?

      • +2

Just doing it now! Thanks. I thought it was a paid game.

        • I am not able to find the free game. To me, all Gwent ones are showing paid. Anyone mind posting the free game link here?

        • +1

I actually "play" the game in Steam. There was a Steam quest to play Gwent to earn some internet points so I tried it out. Looks nice. Not a fan of multiplayer games especially getting spanked by people who know what they are doing so I haven't really gone past the tutorial. All the kegs appear there after you link everything up.

You can claim free kegs regularly using Amazon Prime gaming too so look out for that if you really want to get into Gwent.

The controls have not aged well.

    • +5

The game aged like milk, but once I got used to the jank I really enjoyed it

Remake coming :) in unreal engine 5

Any thoughts on how I might do this on a Mac, given I can't start the install for GWENT? I don't have Windows installed atm.

    • +2

You don't need to install it. You can add GWENT to cart and checkout.

    • Try WINE - www.winehq.org - this runs many Windows apps on Linux or Mac by translating API calls that the Windows app makes into the appropriate Linux/Unix API calls. It is technically not an emulator but a software compatibility layer (hence the slightly dorky acronym Wine Is Not an Emulator) and this matters because it doesn't require a copy of Windows, but mimics its core functions and can use some Windows add-ons that are freely able to be downloaded from the web if the Wine guys haven't fully duplicated some particular functionality your app needs (yet). It also runs much faster than a full system emulator and many times at almost native speed on your system. Wine in it's basic version is somewhat technical, but it is free and has become so good over the years that the Mac & Linux versions of Steam use a modded version of WINE with some extra Valve authored software to run windows games, but only those bought through Steam, and many Windows apps have been ported to Mac/Linux just by bundling an unseen WINE library, including some of the Mac/Linux versions of games on gog.com, often involving a company called codeweavers for that bit (see below).

Or to make things much simpler, there are people who package WINE in a friendlier way and provide install scripts for many apps or types of apps (games, office, etc) if there's not a specific script for your app. These scripts will install any add-ons needed and configure your "Windows" environment (called a "Prefix", like a profile, or some Wine packagers call it a WINE "bottle" or similar). You can use the same prefix/profile/environment setup for various apps and "install" several apps into this Prefix, or have different Prefixes for different apps that are tweaked to give that app the configuration and add-ons it needs. For example, some apps will only work properly if you have the Prefix set to pretend it's running on Windows 7, some will want particular library file loaded.

      A really good free packaged version of WINE is PlayOnLinux/PlayOnMac, which you can find out about here;
      https://alternativeto.net/software/playonlinux/about/

There was an older alternative called WINE Bottler (this is the one that calls prefixes "bottles"), but that site says it stopped being developed 3 years ago.

Failing that, there is a commercially supported packaged version of WINE called Crossover by many of the guys that made WINE in the first place and now make their living supporting it through a company called CodeWeavers. Crossover costs a little bit, but not that much, and it also makes things quite easy to install and handles all the behind the scenes making of prefixes automatically, and has more developed scripts and patches for particular apps than the free packaged versions. There is a version of Crossover for Mac, Linux and Chrome OS and it costs $US74. See https://www.codeweavers.com/crossover - many of the advances is CrossOver eventually make it into the open source version of WINE, but it can take some time.

There is also a database of apps supported by WINE on the winehq.org site, for the technically minded, so you can look up how your app runs or the technicalities of how other people got it running. This database tends to be Linux oriented rather than Mac however. See https://appdb.winehq.org and use the search box. For example, https://www.winehq.org/search?q=witcher

    • I ran into this a previous time they'd run this promotion. Try adding the free 4K graphics DLC to your cart:

      https://www.gog.com/en/game/gwent_the_witcher_card_game_4k_gā€¦

That should add the base game to your cart. Once you go through the checkout process, it should add the game to your library. You could also remove the DLC from your cart if you don't want it added to your library together with the base game.

    Thanks OP

  • Is this the GOTY version?

  • Does it work for Mac also, or only Windows?

    • There's an option on the download for Witcher Enhanced to download for mac.

      Edit: Store page says " Works on: Windows (7, 8, 10), Mac OS X (10.15.0+) "

      • Or see my long comment above about WINE

They just announce this getting a remake, if anyone wants to wait for that.

  • Anyone have a link to their newsletter signup?

  • Giving away triple a titles??

    • No

  • Nice, never played witcher series.

    • +1

If you end up playing it and get tired of the constant back-tracking (which is my biggest gripe with it) I recommend downloading the increased movement speed mod

      • Cool, thanks for the tip.
