Gate Motor Makes Buzzing Noise for 1-4 Seconds before Opening

My front gate motor, a FAAC motor, makes a buzzing noise after pressing the remote for anywhere from 1-4 seconds before opening.
Is something wrong with it? Please dont tell me its on its way out, anything we can do to fix it.

  • Is it a mechanical buzz (gears moving) or an electrical buzz?

Does it immediately start buzzing when you push the button? or does it get noisier?

If you disconnect power while it's buzzing, does it stop immediately? or does it start getting quieter?

Very hard to help without a video of the buzzing

Start capacitor or run capacitor is on the way out.

Sounds expensive. Set it on fire before it does it itself.

  • it buzzes as soon as the remote is pressed, does NOT get louder. just takes a few seconds before the gate will move.
i was thinking the motor is starting to become weak?

i'll try get a video sometime.

and it definately sounds like a electrical buzz.

    • Sounds like something in the starting circuit is playing up then. If you aren't familiar with electrics I definitely wouldn't go poking around inside to figure out whats going wrong.

If a new motor is less than $200 I would just get a new drive unit. Otherwise call out a repair-person

Sounds like the motor is FAACed

  • It's having trouble starting. As Muzeeb said it's the motor starting capacitor or the mechanicals need lubricating. That is, the mechanicals are not moving smoothly and causing difficulty for the motor.
