Expensive for non-polarised…you're paying for the brand.

    • Ray Ban have been around since Moses played halfback for Jerusalem, so people probably know by now what they’re paying for. Glass that offers UV protection and a decent tint, and a reasonable quality frame. Cancer Council isn’t for everyone.

      • doesn’t say of the lenses are plastic or mineral crystal glass …prefer glass as harder to scratch and easier to clean than plastic.

Glass mate. As far as I know all RB lenses are made of the good stuff.
Having spent 45 or so years wearing all sorts of eye protection as a chippy and surfer, I can tell you that plastic lenses may be light but they scratch very, very easily and don’t offer the same clarity that good glass does. Best I’ve owned are Maui Jim but I haven’t tried them all.

Plenty of fasion brands offer polarised lenses…I have Polo RL ones (also from Myer, coinkydinkily) that have polarised lenses.

        • So what?

All polarising does is reduce light waves oscillating in one direction. Won’t stop uV. Bey hey, Polo! Will look great with the collared t-shirt 😉

@The Araldited Wallet: No point paying for fashion glasses unless the lenses have some use beyond tinting. And yes, Polo, a little more individual than Ray Ban, so happy to flex on the poors with their generic wayfarer monotony.

if you've got health insurance that includes eye cover and you have not used it then you can probably get this for free from your optometrist

    • How? I have private insurance with extra that cover optical but I don’t have eye numbers.

      • +1

you go to the optometrist to get a free eye test. they will then give you your prescription to get the glasses and they should also give you free clear lenses, but ask just to be sure
apparently, everyone doesn't have perfect vision. For example, as a kid i never got glasses but after realizing that my insurance included eye cover, i went to the optometrist and did as i mentioned above and got a free pair of ray bans.

        • I need new frames and have wasted $500 optical cover with private health for 15 years.
I got an eye test, and I apparently have better than 20/20 vision, so they had no prescription to offer.
Private health wont cover anything without a prescription. But just tried to order a pair of single vision glasses anyway (since i only need the frames). But it asks for the prescription details. Figure i'll future proof myself and get lenses with the weakest possible prescription for reading. Obviously wont use the lenses yet. Would that be a +0.25? and what does Axis mean? Also pupil distance, whats the average?

Pretty sad that being proactive and protecting my eyes isnt valued and need to resort to this. Cheers.

          • @tunzafun001: do you have astigmatism? that's what the axis refers to.

            • @tdw: So if my eyes are 'normal', do I just select the zero option?

If you do any driving-related work (Uber, taxi, metro bus, delivery, truck etc) you can claim this back when doing your tax return.

    • +1

It needs to include a prescription

  • This one doesn't say its made in Italy.

  • I literally just returned both pairs I bought. They came directly from China and when I opened them they looked like $3 glasses from Thailand. Worst buy. Would not recommend these at all!
