Big International Travel Spend Upcoming - Best Credit Card?

Having to travel back to the USA for a family wedding next year on the opposite side of the globe. Will be spending likely the equivalent of $15k aud on airfare for 2 adults and 3 kids, rental car overseas, meals and travel expenses.

Cancelled NAB and ANZ CCs last month, so perfect timing to get a new one and leverage the big spend.

  • Airfare most likely through emirates. I imagine this will show up as an international charge?
  • Everything else paid in U.S. dollars overseas on CC. Ideally CC has no international fees.

What would you suggest I go for the points, travel insurance, rental car insurance benefits?

I thought about the Citi prestige but looks like it excludes international charges for the eligible spend.

Cheers

Best to wait for the most favourable exchange rate and lock in cash

  • travel back to the USA ….. on the far side of the disk FTFY

  • Citi might be gone next year , or policy/benefits changes as NAB slowly rolling Citi within their arm.

Bankwest platinum has zero annual / international / forex fees, and comes with travel insurance that covers covid expenses

But most likely you would want something with better intro deals , such as 0% on purchases for 12 months , or points / rebate

CBA Ultimate might be good, not sure what the points bonus is at the moment.

It has a high monthly fee but you can avoid it by spending $2.5k a month on it, which I am assuming will be ok for someone with a partner and 3 kids.

  • I used the Coles Reward Mastercard when I went overseas for a long period of time. It rewarded you in flybuys $ which I didn't mind because I was coming back anyway. There's usually some signup offer to offset the annual fee ($99) and it has free international transactions.

In case one card doesn't meet all your needs, you can also consider getting something else to patch the differences.

  • Read the wiki, great info, but most of the deals in the wiki are expired or old info. Good read however!
We certainly hit 3-4k month easy with 3 kids lol.
Seems like it's a lul in good CC offers atm. Ill just my eyes peeled for the next bargain to pop up and track that exchange rate!
    Cheers
