Mini Display Port to Display Port Cable

I recently bought a Dell XPS laptop which comes with a mini display port. My Dell Ultrasharp monitor has a display port.

I would like to buy a cable to connect the above.

Where in Aus can I get a good quality cable?

Would there be any compatibility issues if I go with a Apple Mac cable?

Thanks

  • I've got a Dell ultrasharp monitor that I use with a Macbook Air and an XPS13. The monitor came with a Displayport cable, so I only had to buy a small adaptor from MSY. IMHO there's no quality difference between brand name and generic digital cables/adaptors. I highly doubt there would be any compatibility issues if you use an Apple cable.

  • You should be able to get the part from Dell. I am basing. That on the fact that the two products could be sold together and they really should have something for you.

DisplayPort is a standard, so no there won't be any issues using an Apple or generic adapter if you find one. As you would have seen most adapters go from mini to HDMI. Maybe look at a miniDP to DVI? http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com.au/viewitem?itemId=2210489706…

  • @maldrat - thank you for your response, my monitor did not come with a display port cable, so if I get that adapter from MSY, I will have to buy a display port cable as well.

@sjp770 - thank your for your input, Dell does not sell mini DP to DP cable. They only sell mini DP - VGA adapter.

I ended up picking a HDMI to DVI cable as my monitor supports DVI and my laptop has a HDMI port. It cost me $13 from JW (jw.com.au).

Tested the cable and it works well.

    Thanks
